Container Items
The Barrel is a standard container made from wood that will roll down slopes when thrown. If opened it can reveal from 1 to 3 items or explode. Starting from Brawl, barrels can take different forms depending of the stage.
The Capsule is a small container item that may contain 1 item or explode if thrown.
The Crate is a standard container made from wood that can be carried and thrown. If opened it can revel from 1 to 3 items or explode. Starting from Brawl, crates can take different forms depending on the stage. Also starting form Brawl, some crates will start rolling if attacked.
The Egg is a small container item that may contain 1 item, explode when thrown or recover a small amount of life. It is normally associated with the Pokémon Chansey as it leaves 3 to 6 eggs if it appears on stage.
The Party Ball is a special container item that might carry items, Food or Bob-ombs. The main difference with other containers is that after being thrown or attacked to open it will hover in the air for a brief amount of time before revealing it's content.
Collectible Items
CDs are collectible items that add a new track of background music when acquired.
Stickers are a collectible item that appears during gameplay. When acquired the stickers are stored in the Album and may be selected to use in a Gallery mode over colorful backgrounds to take screenshots. The images are all promotional art for other Nintendo games.
Useable Items
Assist Trophies are a collection of Nintendo characters that await inside a Trophy Case ready to pop out and help the player that freed them. Their abilities vary immensely but most of them cause damage in some way to the opponents.

Banana Peels are throwable items that cause any player that walks over them to slip and fall to the ground.
Originally from Donkey Kong Country, the Barrel Cannon is an item that appears around the stages. If an external force is applied it will roll down the stage until it hits a character. The character is sucked into the barrel and then is propelled outside with much force in a random direction.
The Beam Sword is an original item created for the Smash Bros. games. The original version for the N64 game featured a fixed length of the beam blade while the Brawl version started short but grew larger depending on the force used to wield it.
Originally from Super Mario Bros. 2, the Bob-omb is an explodable item that can be used against opponents. However, if a Bob-omb appears and is not used, it will start walking around the stage turning around on edges untill it hits something or explodes by itself.
The Bumper is an original item that causes characters to knock back after touching it. During Melee the bumpers where replaced for the Flippers but made a comeback for Brawl with the added potential of being set midair as well as on platforms.
Originally from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, the Bunny Hood is an usable item that allows the user to run faster and jump higher.
The Cloacking Device is an usable item that makes the user invisible. In this state the character will not take damage from attacks but will react to them as normal.
The Cracker Launcher is a shooting item that fires fireworks into the air. The user can move while carrying the launcher and modifies the angle to shoot at different places.
The Fan is an original item that allows fast and repetitive hits at the opponents. The fan allows the user to break the opponent's shield with less hits than normal.
Originally form Super Mario Bros., the Fire Flower is a shooting item that works like a flamethrower. The user stays in one place while continuous flames surround the opponents. It leaves the user open to counterattacks from behind. It will also run out of fire after a certain amount of use.
Originally from Balloon Fight, the Flipper hangs in midair after being thrown acting like a bumper that knocks back opponents. The harder it's touched, the faster it spins and inflicts more damage.
Food is the collective name of various items that recover form 2 to 10% of damage. These can be picked up even if the character is holding another item.
Originally from Mother and Earthbound, the Franklin Badge is an usable item that reflects any projectile back at it's owner. It will detach from the user after some time.
Originally from Mario Bros., the Freezie is a throwable item that captures opponents in solid ice. After appearing the freezie slides along the stage and shatters if it's attacked.
The Gooey Bomb is a throwable item that sticks to a platform or an opponent. Before it explodes it can be passed to someone else by touching the new recepit.
Originally from Wrecking Crew, the Golden Hammer is stronger than the regular Hammer and has the added effect of allowing the user to float for a short period of time. However, it has the possibility of being a Squeaky Hammer that doesn't deals damage.
Originally from Super Mario Bros., the Green Shell is a throwable item that dashes into foes and knows them with incredible force. However, it will fall down from edges if it doesn't hit something in it's path.
Originally form Donkey Kong, the Hammer allows the user to go into a barage of attack that will most certainly KO the opponents. However, the user is only able to walk and single jump while using it. Sometimes the head will fall leaving the original user open to attacks.
Originally from The Legend of Zelda, the Heart Container will recover 100% from the character that takes it. In the original game the heart container recovers all the damage.
The Home-Run Bat is an original item that causes damage to opponents when hit. The peculiarity radicates in the fact that a fully charged hit is an instant one hit KO.
Originally from Panel de Pon, the Lip's Stick is an usable item that grows a flower that deals constant damage into any attacked foes. The harder the hit the bigger the flower and the more damage it inflicts. The affected character can shake off the flower by moving rapidly.
Originally from Kirby Dream Land, the Maximum Tomato recovers 50% of the damage taken in battle. In the original game the tomato recovers 100% of the damage.
The Metal Box is a wearable item that transforms the user into metal. In this state the user weights a lot more than usual, causing faster falls and less flinching from attacks.
The Motion-Sensor Bomb is an usable item that must be thrown so it can attach itself into floors and walls. When something touches it it explodes causing damage.
Originally from Earthbound, Mr. Saturns are used to deal repetitive damage to the foe by throwing them at a short distance just to pick them up again in the air and repeating. If a Mr. Saturn appear and is not used it will start walking along the stage.
Originally from Kirby's Dream Land, the Parasol is a clobbering item that allows gliding when used in the air.
Originally from Animal Crossing, the Pitfall is an usable item that can be thrown into an enemy or into a floor. If the affected opponent is over a solid ground the item will held them in place for a moment. If the affected opponent is over a platform it will force the opponent to fall through it.
Originally from Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan), the Poison Mushroom shrinks the character that touches in both height and weight.
