Tirtouga is a sea turtle-like fossil Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. Its evolved form is Carracosta.

Information

Tirtouga lived over one million years ago. They primarily swam in the oceans, but it is believed that they also sometimes came to land to search for prey. Tirtouga is capable of diving to depths of half a mile.

Although they became extinct, Tirtouga can be revived from Cover Fossils. It evolves into Carracosta at Level 37.

Main Appearances

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, the player must choose between receiving a recently uncovered Cover Fossil or a Plume Fossil from an archeologist near the entrance of Relic Castle. If the Cover Fossil is chosen, it can be revived as a Tirtouga at the Nacrene City Museum.

Trivia

  • Tirtouga's name is a play on "tortuga", the Spanish word for turtle.
  • Tirtouga notably resembles concept artwork for a Pokémon from the second generation that was ultimately scrapped and may be a reworking of said Pokémon.
