Luxray is a predatory electrical feline Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It is the third and final form in Shinx's evolutionary line.
Information[edit]
Luxray evolves from Luxio at Level 30. Its most notable new ability is that it can see through anything when its eyes gleam gold. This allows Luxray to spot and capture prey that hide behind objects. Luxray also use this ability to find lost young and scout for danger.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
Luxray has not been found in the wild and can only be obtained through evolution.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Luxray could be recruited at the fifth through ninth floors of the Far Amp Plains, and a Luxray also appeared as a boss atop the Amp Plains with a tribe of eight Luxio. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it appeared at Oil Field Hideout. It could also be captured in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Layuda Island and the Thunder Temple. In Pokémon Rumble, it was found at Fiery Furnace. Luxray also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Haunted Zone.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, one episode featured Luxray as the main Pokémon of Marble (a young Officer Jenny) who was having trouble with it since it evolved due to it being disobedient and seemingly incapable of using electric attacks. This changed after it was trapped in a maze with Ash's Pikachu and it saved its life, so the Luxray then used his special vision to navigate around the traps and out of the maze, becoming loyal to Marble and regaining its electric moves (as well as sending Team Rocket blasting off again). A Luxray has also been shown as one of Volkner's Pokémon during his fight with Ash. It beat Ash's Pikachu bit lost to his Infernape. Other Luxray have made some minor appearances.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Mars was initially shown using a Luxray at Valley Windworks during the Diamond/Pearl arc, but the graphic novel version replaced it with Electivire. A Luxio that had befriended Pearl also evolved into a Luxray and helped Diamond to save Pearl and Platina from Cyrus. The Luxray had become the leader of its pack which had once rejected it, and it helped Pearl again at Fuego Ironworks which lead to Luxray deciding to join Pearl and becoming his third Pokémon.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a combination of "lux" (which is Latin for "light" and used as a measure of brightness) with "x-ray" (in reference to its eyes' capabilities).
