Cottonee is a cotton-covered Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. Its evolved form is Whimsicott.

Information[edit]

Cottonee is a Pokémon that goes wherever the wind takes it, possibly literally to its extremely light and cottony body. Their days become heavier on rainy days, which leads them to take cover under large trees. When attacked, Cottonee shoot out cotton from their bodies to distract enemies while they escape.

Cottonee evolves into Whimsicott when exposed to a Sun Stone.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Black, Cottonee appear uncommonly at Pinwheel Forest, Lostlorn Forest and Abundant Shrine. In White, Cottonee cannot be found in the wild and can only be obtained by trading a Petilil to a trainer at Nacrene City.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Rumble Blast, it was found at the forest and field areas of Misty Edgewater. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, Cottonee appeared at the Arbor Area and was befriended through a chase game.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, a group of Cottonee were featured in an episode of the Unova series in which Ash's group helped one Cottonee to get stronger for a female Cottonee that had rejected it during their mating season. They have also made various other minor appearances.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, a Cottonee was initially shown as part of Hiker Andy's team at the beginning of the Black/White arc. They were beaten quickly by Black in his first Pokémon battle. As Andy had failed to live up to his dreams, the Cottonee was particularly resentful and turned out to actually resent its own abilities. It accidentally spread some of Tepig's embers into a full-fledged fire following the battle, but Black was then able to help Cottonee extinguish the fire by using Cotton Spore to collect water that put out there fire.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a simple play on "cotton" or "cottony".
