Navarre (or Nabarl in the PAL version and Nabaaru in Brawl) is a deadly mercenary who appears as a playable unit in Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi, Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo, Part 3 of BS Fire Emblem: Akaneia Senki and their respective remakes.
Background
Navarre was a mysterious mercenary who was known throughout Archanea for his skill with the blade. He specialized in a dual wielding fighting style, utilizing two eastern blades. Though he often wound up working for bandits, he had a code of honor and would not fight women or children, a trait which was usually exploited to recruit him. According to some designer's notes, this was because he was traveling the continent in search of an unknown person.
BS Fire Emblem
Navarre shows up in Part 3, where he happened to be near the Millennial Palace in Pales when Lena was accosted by a perverted nobleman, and Navarre intervened to save her. He was then hired by Lena to help her and her friend Rickard in looting the Millennial Palace. With Castor joining them, the four engaged in comical banter with Navarre often threatening to cut Rickard's tongue out for his lies. They managed to get away with the money after Nyna let them have more treasure and had Camus escort them to the outskirts of the city.
Book One
Navarre wound up being hired to work for the Soothsire Bandits at the Ghoul's Teeth some time later. He appeared in Chapter 3 as an enemy, but Caeda could convince him to switch sides by questioning what a warrior of his caliber was doing associated with bandits and offered him the ultimatum of either joining them or turning his sword on her. This led Navarre to decide to join with Marth's Altean Army, as Caeda betting her life made her the higher bidder in his eyes. After the war ended, Navarre vanished, but inspired a variety of impostors who hoped to cash in on his name.
Book Two
Navarre resurfaced three years later, where he had once more fallen in with a group of bandits based in the Fane of Raman. However, when he heard that the Altean Army was coming, he changed his mind and helped the girl Feena (who was lost in the forest and being pursued by the other bandits) to reach the Altean army, simply saying that there was someone within the army he wanted to see. She proceeded to babble on to Navarre about how he looked frightful but was actually gentle and then went on to criticize his hair and fashion sense until Navarre threatened her to shut up. He was automatically playable from the start of Chapter 7, and after that war ended, he was said to have ignored the hopes of others and once more disappeared.
Other Appearances
Video Games
- In the Super Smash Bros. series, Navarre has been represented by a sticker (where he was referred to as "Nabaaru") in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and an Advanced-rank Support Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. As a Spirit, his Support effect was for the player character to start a battle equipped with a Killing Edge.
Other Media
- Navarre appears in the second (and last to be made) episode of the Fire Emblem OVA, where he is called Navarl. He is first seen being coerced into joining the bandits but actually joins in order to help Rena (and later Julian). He ends up getting into a battle with Ogma until Caeda breaks it up and convinces him to join them. Navarre's past is also hinted at in his nightmare sequence where he shows concern at a woman being slain.
