Basculin is a hostile fish Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. It has no evolutionary line but comes in two different forms: one with red stripes and one with blue stripes.
Information[edit]
The two different types of Basculin do not get along and are always at odds with each other. Red and blue Basculin usually break out into fights whenever being around each other. These fish are known for being hostile in general. However, it has been known for members of one Basculin's school to mingle with members of another.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Basculin are commonly found by surfing or fishing in any body of water within Unova, although the form availability depends on the version. In Black, the red-striped Basculin is found normally while fishing or surfing, while the blue-striped Basculin appears only at surfing or fishing spots. Inversely, in White the blue-striped Basculin appears usually when fishing or surfing with the red-striped Basculin appearing only at surfing and fishing spots.
A Basculin (with the unique ability Rock Head in White) can also be traded to the player by a trainer in Driftveil City for a Minccino.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Rumble Blast, Basculin of both varieties were found in the llake of the Soothing Shore. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, a red Basculin inhabited the river at the Arbor Area's Verdant Court area. It could be befriended through a chase and was also known to emigrate to the Lakeshore of the Arcane Area.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Basculin were featured in one episode about a fishing contest. Both varieties appeared, and Cilan was able to catch a blue one, but it was released with the rest of the Pokémon when Frillish freed them from Team Rocket. Basculin have since made additional minor appearances.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, one member of the Shadow Triad (who wore a Panpour-based mask) was shown to use a Basculin in battle.
Trivia[edit]
