Dart is a playable unit in Fire Emblem and the only playable pirate in the game. He was a proud and ambitious pirate, but he could not remember most of his past. Prior to losing memory, he was known as Dan and lived in Pherae.

Background

Dan was born in a small village in Pherae and was the son of the village's magistrate. He had a younger sister, Rebecca, and he also became close friends with Wil, their next door neighbor. Wil and Dan later ran away from home to initiate a scheme that they hoped would result in them getting rich giving their families better lifestyles. But one month into the journey, Dan left Wil at the port town of Badon with the impression that he was going home.

It is uncertain what happened after Dan parted ways with Wil, but it resulted in Dan being left on one of Badon's docks, bleeding severely. At the time the sailors and other people of Badon were observing a holiday of St. Elimine that forbade contact with blood, so anyone who saw Dan ignored him. Dan laid there half dead, for six hours until the day ended and the taboo was lifted. The pirate captain Fargus then helped Dan to recover to full health. However, he had lost all his memories in the process. Because of this, he became known by a new name, Dart.

Dart joined Fargus's pirate crew and became one of Fargus's most loyal and devoted followers. At the same time he also developed his own ambitions when he somehow acquired a treasure map that led to the treasure of the legendary pirate king, Han Gak. He endeavored to solve the map's riddles to find the treasure's location. Once he found the treasure, he planned to hide it in a new place and then create a new map to distribute so that he would be known as the new legendary pirate king. He served on Fargus's crew for five years by the time of Fire Emblem.

Dart made several appearances in the chapters of Fire Emblem leading up to his joining of Eliwood's group. First in "The Port of Badon" (Eliwood Chapter 16x, Hector Chapter 17x), Fargus tested Eliwood's group by sending his pirates to attack them in exchange for giving them free passage to Valor Isle. Dart was among the pirates, but unlike the others he remained stationary and would not attack unless he was attacked first. It is possible to kill him in this chapter, but that would mean he would not be playable later on. He is then briefly seen in "Pirate Ship" (Eliwood Chapter 17, Hector Chapter 18), when has to carry the unconscious Ninian aboard and winds up asking Lyn to help him, as he did not know the appropriate way to hold a woman.

After they arrived at Valor Isle, Dart left with Fargus's permission to join with Eliwood's group. Fargus merely said that Dart wanted to go sight-seeing, but the real reason likely involved his search for the pirate king's treasure. Dart stayed with Eliwood for the remainder of Eliwood's adventure. They also met with Fargus again when he brought them to Valor Isle again in the last chapters. Fargus warned Dart to come back alive, and Dart assured him that he would. After the final chapter, Dart rejoined Fargus's pirate crew.

Possible Fates

Dart has two possible endings, depending on whether or not he has A Rank Support with Farina. It is possible for the events of his default ending to occur following his ending with Farina.

• Default Ending- Dart received a serious wound while he was defending Fargus in battle and was lost at sea afterwards. However, there were rumors that Dart turned up alive in Pherae (possibly having remembered his past).
• Farina and Dart's Ending- Farina, apparently having fallen in love with Dart, began visiting Dart often in Badon and spent much time flirting with him. It is unstated whether or not their relationship developed beyond flirtation.

Support Conversation Summaries

Dart is capable of having Support conversations with five other characters.

• Farina- In the first Support conversation, Farina asks Dart what is pay is, and he says that he receives no payment and doesn't mind because he likes to travel and doesn't really need to pay for anything. Farina insults him for his nonexistent pay and mentions her 20,000 gold payment, although Dart calls that money "chump change" and mentions that he has big dreams. In the second conversation, Farina inquires about Dart's dreams, and Dart tells her about the pirate king's treasure map. She is amazed by the value of the treasure and at first claims the map is fake, but Dart shows Farina proof that the map is genuine. Farina then threatens to find the treasure first and take it. In the third conversation, Dart and Farina argue as they try to interpret the map's riddles. He calls her greedy, and Farina says that he's no different since he'd become rich from the treasure, but then Dart reveals his true intentions to re-hide the treasure instead of keeping it. She proceeds to call him stupid and they continue arguing over who will find the treasure first.
• Geitz- In the first Support conversation, Geitz approaches Dart and complains about his boredom, while Dart accuses Geitz of being useless. In the second conversation, Geitz attempts to order Dart around and says that he was used to being attended as a child. But Dart becomes angry at Geitz, saying that he looked forward to working alongside Geitz after hearing he had left the merchant's guild, but he now saw that Geitz hadn't changed and was just wandering from one thing to another, always bored and never finishing any new thing he takes up. In the third conversation, Geitz apologizes to Dart and said he had been trying to goad him into a fight. Geitz says he always envied Dart for having something to love and have pride in, in the form of his pirate life. Geitz didn't have anything like that, which led him to resent Dart, but Dart tells Geitz not to give up and keep traveling, and eventually Geitz would find everything he needed. Dart then asks Geitz to join Fargus's crew after the battle, and Geitz agrees, saying that's where he belongs.
• Karel- Karel confronts Dart and seeing that he is a sailor, asks him who he thinks is the strongest fighter in Elibe and gives him some money in exchange. Dart begins naming powerful fighters he heard about in port towns recently, but Karel constantly corrects him by telling him that they are already dead. In the second conversation, Dart returns to name more fighters he remembered in order to earn the money Karel had given him. Dart tells Karel about a sword princess (Karla) and a fourth Wyvern General of Bern (possibly Vaida), and Karel actually finds this information interesting. Dart then asks Karel if he heard about the pirate king's treasure, and Karel replies with a simple no. In the final conversation, Dart talks about another fighter he heard about, the legendary sword demon Karel, and begins talking about his ruthlessness. Karel then tells Dart that he is the very same Karel he speaks of. Dart then asks Karel if he has the thousand swords from the men he had slain, at which point Karel humorously realizes the rumors about him must embellished the truth.
• Rebecca- In the first conversation, Rebecca approaches Dart, thinking him to be her brother Dan. Dart denies this and claims to be a pirate, frightening Rebecca. In the second conversation, Rebecca apologizes to Dart for being afraid of him and gives him some food she made. In the third conversation, he gives her a shell and they discuss Dan, at which point Dart realizes that he might have been Dan prior to losing his memory. They find out for sure after Dart checks and find he has the same scar Dan had. Dart then asks Rebecca to call her Brother, and Rebecca calls her Big Brother Dart- saying that he might not be Dan anymore, but he still was her brother.
• Wil- Wil meets up with Dart during battle and recognizes him as Dan, but Dart denies this. In the second conversation, Dart wishes to battle Wil, but Wil can't even get his name right, accidentally calling him Dark and then Darth. In the third conversation, Wil and Dart both save each other from enemies. Wil brings up Dan again and mentions their history together. Afterwards, Dart tells Wil the story of how Fargus found him, basically saying that he might actually have had Dan, but if he was, he could no longer remember due to his amnesia.

• Dart estimates the pirate king's treasure to be worth at least one hundred million gold.
