Deerling is a small deer-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. Its evolved form is Sawsbuck. Deerling and Sawsbuck are unique for having four different forms depending on the season.
Information[edit]
Deerling is a small Pokémon that changes with the seasons and so is used to mark the passage of the seasons. This is because the color and the scent of its fur changes to match the grass in its environment, which is usually a mountain. This allows the Deerling to hide in nearby grass when it senses hostility.
Thus, it has one form for each season: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Deerling evolves into Sawsbuck at Level 34.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Deerling commonly appeared at Routes 6 and 7 and outside Dragonspiral Tower. Each Deerling form appeared only during its corresponding season.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Rumble Blast, the spring form was found at the forest areas of Challenger's Ground and Echo Valley, the summer form was found at the forest area of Misty Edgewater, the winter form was found at the glacier area of Frozen Tundra, and the autumn form was found at the autumnwood areas of Volcanic Slope and Firebreathing Mountain. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, Deerling appeared at the Verdant Court within the Arbor Area and was befriended through a chase. This Deerling was female and a friend of Snivy's.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Deerling have made various appearances starting in the Unova series, most of them minor and often appearing in herds or belonging to random trainers. Ash tried to catch a Deerling from a herd in one episode, but failed. A Deerling was also the only known Pokémon of the kindergarten teacher Daniela in one episode.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, during the Black/White arc, a Deerling was the first Pokémon that White caught. She caught it while preparing for the Battle Subway with the help of Black and her newly-acquired Servine.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a simple combination "deer" with "-ling" (a suffix which signifies a young one) or possibly "sapling" (due to it being part Grass-type).
