Sawsbuck is larger deer-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. It is the evolved form of Deerling. Sawsbuck and Deerling are together unique in that they have different forms for each season.

Information[edit]

Sawsbuck evolves from Deerling at Level 34. They live in herds, with the leader of the herd having magnificent horns. Like Deerling, its appearance changes from season to season, although Sawsbuck also migrates between seasons. In addition to changes in fur color, Sawsbuck also have different types of foliage depending on the current season.

Its spring form has a only a few pink flowerbuds adorning its horns. Sawsbuck's summer and autumn forms have gigantic bushes in their horns, although the summer bush is green and healthy while the autumn bush is red and drooping. Sawsbuck's winter form is the only form with bare horns, although its horns and parts of its fur are instead colored white, most likely so that it could blend into snowy environments.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Sawsbuck appeared somewhat commonly outside Dragonspiral Tower, but in the dark grass only. Each Sawsbuck form appeared only during its corresponding season.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Rumble Blast, the autumn form was normally found at the autumnwood area of Firebreathing Mountain, and the winter form was found at the glacier area of Frozen Tundra. After the game's ending, the spring form would appear at the forest areas of Echo Valley and Challenger's Ground, and the forest area of Misty Edgewater. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, a Sawsbuck appeared at the Lakeshore of the Arcane Area and could be befriended through a chase. The Sawsbuck was described as being very serious and came to the area to relax.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, Sawsbuck was introduced in one episode as one of Burgundy's Pokémon, which Cilan was able to easily beat using his Pansage. One episode also revolved around the mystery of a lake where all forms of Sawsbuck met. Sawsbuck of different varieties have also made minor appearances.

Trivia[edit]

  • Sawsbuck's name is a play on "sawbuck" (a type of saw used to cut trees in forests), and contains "buck" (which refers to male deer, despite the existence of female Sawsbuck). Additionally, "Saws" could also be seen as an acronym of the four seasons.
