Pansage is the grass monkey Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. It makes up part of a trio of elemental monkeys, with the other two being Pansear and Panpour. Pansage's evolved form is Simisage.
Information[edit]
Pansage is a Pokémon that is said to live deep in the forest. It has a leaf on its head which is known to be potent at relieving stress when eaten. Pansage freely shares its leaf with weary Pokémon. It evolves into Simisage when it is exposed to a Leaf Stone.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, the player can receive a Pansage as a gift from a trainer in the Dreamyard if the player chose Tepig as their starter Pokémon in order to give the player a better fighting chance at Striaton Pokémon Gym (where the player would have to fight the water-using Cress). Pansage and the other two elemental monkeys could otherwise rarely be found in rustling grass within Pinwheel Forest and Lostlorn Forest.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Rumble Blast, Pansage could be found at Beginner's Park, the forest areas of Trailhead Field and Echo Valley and the treetops area of Sun-Dappled Bank. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, it appeared at Cove Town and was befriended by talking to it after the other two monkeys were returned from Wish Park.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Pansage has been featured as Cilan's main Pokémon. It is portrayed as being kind yet good at combat.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Pansage was the Pokémon that Cilan used for the three-on-three gym battle. Although the Pansage was able to defeat Bianca's Oshawott, it accidentally healed the Oshawott as well as Snivy once they ate the leaves on its head. The Pansage was also shown to help in the kitchen by mixing herbs for tea.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a combination of "pan" (which is the name of the genus which contains chimpanzees) with "sage" (a term used to refer to various types of plants which usually relate to mints or herbs).
- The design of the three elemental monkeys seems to have been inspired by the "three wise monkeys" proverb which is an old part of Japanese philosophy. Pansage, with its mouth wide open, would represent "speak no evil".
