Pansear is fire-using monkey-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. It forms an trio of elemental monkeys with Pansage and Panpour. Its evolved form is Simisear.
Information[edit]
Pansear is a monkey with fire powers that usually lives in volcanoes. The tuft on its head contains a flame that can reach 600 degrees Fahrenheit when it is angered. It also uses the fire from this tuft to roast berries.
It evolves into Simisear when exposed to a Fire Stone.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, a Pansear could be received as a gift from a trainer at the Dreamyard to provide help against Striation Gym if the player had chosen Oshawott as the starter Pokémon. Additionally, wild Pansear could be rarely found in rustling grass at Pinwheel Forest and Lostlorn Forest.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Rumble Blast, Pansear was found at Beginner's Park, the cave of Echo Valley and the lava area of Volcanic Slope. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, it and Panpour would appear at Cove Town after being retrieved from Wish Park, and they could all be befriended by talking to Pansage after rescuing the first two.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- Pansear appeared in an episode of the Pokémon anime as one of Chili's Pokémon, although it was defeated by Ash's Tepig. It reappeared in a later episode, where an insecure Chili blamed his failures on it, and it ran away until Cilan and Pansage were able to help them reunite. They were able to teach SolarBeam to the Pansear to give it a greater advantage, and it was able to defeat Ash's Oshawott in battle. Pansear have also made minor appearances belonging to other trainers, and one episode showed that a Pansear (along with Panpour) was among Iris's Pokémon friends when she was a child.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Pansear was Chili's main Pokémon during the Black/White arc. During the three-on-three battle, it beat Cheren's Snivy, but it lost to Bianca's Oshawott. It was the only Pokémon in the match to be knocked out when the time limit expired, which cost the gym leaders the match. The Pansear was also shown to help in the kitchen with boiling tea.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a combination of "pan" (the genus which contains chimpanzees) with "sear" (a cooking method). Its combined name also forms a pun on "pan searing", another name for the cooking method.
- The elemental monkeys also seem to be based on the three wise monkeys, a part of Japanese philosophy. Pansear calls attention to its ears and seems to represent "hear no evil".
