Emolga is an electric flying squirrel-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games and has no known evolutionary line.

Information[edit]

Emolga is a small Pokémon that lives in treetops. They have a cape-like membrane which they use to fly while discharging electricity. The electricity which it releases while gliding was previously stored in its membance after being collected as energy by its cheek pouches.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, an Emolga could be obtained by trading a Boldore to an old man on Route 7, and otherwise Emolga only uncommonly appeared in rustling grass at Routes 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16, Lostlorn Forest, outside Dragonspiral Tower, Victory Road Gate, Village Bridge, outside the Giant Chasm's entrance and at the Abundant Shrine.

Other Games[edit]

In Pokémon Rumble Blast, Emolga appeared at the forest area of Trailhead Field and the treetops area of World Axle's second basement floor. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, Emolga was found in a cavern at the Cove Area's Seasong Beach after the game was completed and could be befriended through a game of Hide and Seek.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, a female Emolga was featured in an episode where it exploited Attract to steal fruits from other Pokémon. Iris wound up pursuing it, and after she helped save them from a swarm of Swoobat, the Emolga allowed Iris to capture it. This Emolga has often used attacks such as Attract and Volt Switch (often exploited to avoid battles). An Emolga was also shown as one of the Pokémon that Elesa used in her gym battle against Ash, and it was able to hold out against most of Ash's team, and like the other Emolga it used Attract when it could. The Emolga was able to defeat Palpitoad and Snivy, but these battles exhausted it to the point where Pikachu was able to defeat it with one Quick Attack. Other Emolga have made minor appearances.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Elesa was shown to own two Emolga which often followed her around outside of their Poké Balls. She used one Emolga in her gym battle with Black, where it lost to his Pignite.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its English name is a play on the Japanese name Emonga, which could come from "emon" (which is Japanese for drapery, which may refer to its cloth-like membrane) and "momonga" (the scientific name for the Japanese dwarf flying squirrel).
