Top henchman of the X-Nauts and responsible for just about everything. Among his skills are leading, spying, and battling - none of which he excels at. His personal robot-suit is called Magnus von Grapple. He acts as the main X-Naut enemy for Mario for most of the entire quest, fulfilling Grodus's orders as best as possible. Though he was successful in obtaining the first crystal star, he found himself foiled at every turn once Mario became involved.

Background[edit]

Their first meeting was in Rogueport when he was trying to force information out of Goombella. After a humiliating defeat, he summoned his goons to tackle Mario (who escaped anyways). They meet up again in Boggly Woods. Lord Crump had taken responsibility for finding the Crystal Star there. This entailed locking up the disobedient punies and allying with the jabbis, all too ready to get some revenge on their wingless enemies. After Mario saves all the punies, Lord Crump uses a fake 'Puny Orb Holder' as a trap. Even though they escape their prison, Lord Crump was all too ready to deal with them by using Magnus von Grapple when they found the Crystal Star. He is defeated once again, but soon on the trail for the next star. When Mario boards a ship to Keyhaul Isle, Lord Crump boards the ship as 'Four-Eyes', another crewmen. Like Goombella, he breaks the fourth wall by telling the audience not to tell Mario who he is. He lies low until Cortez gives them the Crystal Star, at which point he breaks out with his own hidden X-Naut ship to steal it and defeat the opposition with cannonfire. Once again he is soundly defeated and as punishment he is sent to Twilight Town to retrieve the Superbombomb the Shadow Sirens lost. He meets up with Bowser and they have an explosive face-off... literally.

His last meeting with Mario takes place in the X-Naut base located on the Moon. With his crystal-powered Magnus von Grapple 2.0, he attempts one final time to defeat Mario. Though he did indeed lose, Grodus considered this inconsequential. Had Crump won, he would have presented Grodus with all seven stars. Since Mario won, he merely used Mario to gain entrance through The Thousand-Year Door. After the defeat of the Shadow Queen, the X-nauts were said to have lightened up considerably. Lord Crump is seen later in Poshley Heights with other X-nauts and the remains of Grodus's head.
