Debut | Paper Mario |
Watt is a Li'l Sparky who appeared as a playable partner in Paper Mario. She was the sixth partner to be recruited in the game.
Background[edit]
Watt was a young and excitable Li'l Sparky who sported a pacifier. She enjoyed dark places and was even eager to take part in battle. At one point, Watt was captured by the Big Lantern Ghost and was used to light his lantern within the Shy Guy's Toy Box. During Chapter 4 of Paper Mario, Mario battled and defeated the Big Lantern Ghost. He then shattered the lantern, which freed Watt. Quickly recognizing the famous hero, Watt was excited to meet Mario and volunteered to help him.
After Bowser was defeated and the adventure ended, Watt was seen talking with some Shy Guys at the Toy Box when Parakarry arrived to deliver an invitation to a celebration that would be held at Princess Peach's Castle. Watt later attended that festivity.
Abilities[edit]
Outside of battle, Watt can be held by Mario to light up dark rooms. Watt's power can also reveal invisible ? Blocks. Additionally, Watt needs to be the set partner during battles set in dark areas, as without her illuminating the area, Mario and any other partners will be unable to attack at all.
In battle, Watt has the following attacks:
- Electro Dash - Watt charges her power and electrocutes an enemy. The attack cuts through an enemy's defense.
- Power Shock - For 2 FP, Watt will electrocute an enemy in hopes of paralyzing it for a turn.
- Turbo Charge - For 3 FP, Watt lends some energy to Mario, raising his Attack by 1 for a few turns.
- Mega Shock - For 5 FP, Watt sends out a burst of electricity that may paralyze every enemy in the battle for a few turns.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- Watt appeared in the Super Mario-Kun manga, during the arc which adapted Paper Mario.
Canceled Appearances[edit]
- Updated sprites for all of the original Paper Mario partners, Watt included, were found in the files of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. This implies that they were all intended to appear within the game, as two of them (Parakarry and Bow) do make cameo appearances in the actual game. The nature of Watt's potential appearance is unknown.
Trivia[edit]
- Watt's name is simply a reference to a "watt" or "wattage", which refers to units of electricity. Her Japanese name is "Akarin", which is a simply play on the Japanese word for "light".
- Watt receives two letters over the course of the game, from her mother and Fuzzpede, respectively.
- Watt is erroneously referred to as a male when upgraded her rank in Paper Mario and in her Catch Card description in Super Paper Mario.
- In Super Paper Mario, Watt is seen in a group picture of the Paper Mario partners seen in Mario's house, and she also has a Catch Card that can be found on the seventieth floor of the Flopside Pit of 100 Trials. It can be sold for 367 coins.
- #246 "This is Mario's good buddy Watt from Paper Mario. This guy was pretty bright for his age!"
