Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games is a crossover sports game that was released for the Wii U in 2014 and is an official tie-in of the 2014 Olympic Games that were held in Sochi, Russia. It is the fourth installment of the Mario & Sonic subseries, the first one for the Wii U and the only installment to lack a handheld version.
Gameplay[edit]
This game features gameplay similar to the previous entries in the series, and it can be controlled with either the Wii U Gamepad or the Wii Remote MotionPlus and Nunchuk controllers. This game features events from previous games, with a focus on winter-based events such as snowboarding, figure skating and bobsledding. The game's modes include Single Match (for individual events), Medley Mania (where multiple players can compete in a series of events), Legends Showdown (similar to an adventure mode, where players compete against other characters in different areas going through all of the game's events, including boss battles), Action & Answer Tour (where players earn points by answering trivia questions between events) and Worldwide VS (for online gameplay).
Up to four players can play together, and this is also the first Mario & Sonic game to allow online multiplayer gameplay.
