Phaaze is a living planet that is the source of all Phazon. It was finally introduced in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

History[edit]

The planet Phaaze is composed solely of Phazon, making it literally a living planet. It was first recorded about a thousand years ago when a missing Chozo Satellite sent a broadcast containing information on the planet. The satellite was destroyed before the transfer was finished, leaving the Chozo only an inkling of information of the planet. They left the search of the planet to the Elysian mechanoid race.

Over its existence, Phaaze would try to spread to create other planets like it. It cannot be determined how many were sent, but every so often Phaaze would forge living meteors, Leviathans, and send them hurling through space. Two such impacts hit both Tallon IV and Aether fifty years ago. The result was devastating and nearly wiped out the dominant species on both planets.

From Tallon IV emerged Dark Samus who, after satiating her thirst for Phazon, began searching for Phaaze. She worked with the Space Pirates and in time discovered it. She brought an Aurora Unit to the planet and began orchestrating Leviathan attacks on planets. The first was the Pirate Homeworld so that it could become a living planet like Phaaze. The other three afterwards were Norion, Elysia, and Bryyo. Although the latter two impacted, the first was stopped by the Galactic Federation.

In response to this threat, bounty hunter Samus Aran neutralized the three Leviathans (as she had already done on Tallon IV and Aether) and used Space Pirate codes to find the location of Phaaze. With the Galactic Federation fleet, they used a Leviathan-like Space Pirate vessel to create a wormhole leading to the distance Phaaze. From there the Federation waged a full scale war on the Pirate forces while Samus infiltrated the planet.

On the planet, Samus executed an unformed Leviathan and then battled Dark Samus. After the battle, the planet Phaaze self-destructed, possibly as a result of Dark Samus's defeat. With it ended the Phazon crisis.

Geography[edit]

The planet is covered from Phazon and can cause instant corruption. For Samus, it caused her PED Suit to launch her into permanent Hyper Mode. The only creatures on the planet as Phazon corrupted, such as Phazon Metroids and Phazon Puffers. It is unknown if these planets are native to the planet, but it's possible the Space Pirates introduced the creatures to the planet.
