Golbat large-jawed bat-like Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation Pokémon games. It was initially Zubat's only evolved form, but it was later shown to evolve into Crobat in the second generation, which retroactively makes Golbat into the middle stage of Zubat's three-stage evolutionary line.

Golbat evolves from Zubat at Level 22 and is a much larger Pokémon, particularly its mouth. It loves to drink the blood of living things and is active primarily on dark and moonless nights, when it flies through the skies in search of fresh blood from both people and Pokémon. They attack in a stealthy manner by puncturing their victim's skin with their four fangs, no matter how hard their hide may be. They instantly draw and gulp down more than ten ounces of blood, which may even make it too heavy to fly. It usually does not stop until it is full.

In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, they can be found in any cave, as well as being found in Routes 28 and 42 at night in Crystal. In HeartGold/SoulSilver, Golbat also appeared in the Mountain and Savannah areas of the Safari Zone at night.
