Machop is a small Fighting-type Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games. Its evolved forms are Machoke and Machamp.

Information

Machop is a humanoid Pokémon that is very powerful in spite of its small size. It loves to build its muscles and trains to master various styles of martial arts. Machop is always brimming with power and passes its time by lifting boulders, which makes it even stronger. It also lifts rocks on mountains to train and can even lift a Graveler easily, sometimes using it as a living barbell. Even if it trains all day long, a Machop will never be satisfied. This is possibly due to the fact that its muscles never get sore, and its body is comprised entirely of muscles.

They usually live away from humans in the mountains, but some have been known to travel the world in order to learn new types of martial arts. Machop is powerful enough to hurl a hundred adult humans and also lift a sumo wrestler over its shoulders. It evolves into Machoke at Level 28.

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Red, Blue, FireRed and LeafGreen, Machop could be found at Rock Tunnel and Victory Road, and in FireRed/LeafGreen it also appeared at Mt. Ember. In Pokémon: Yellow Version, it appeared at Rock Tunnel and Route 10.

In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Machop were primarily found at Mt. Mortar and Rock Tunnel. In HeartGold/SoulSilver it also appeared at Cliff Cave and it could be received by trading a Drowzee to a trainer at Goldenrod City Department Store. Through the Pokéwalker, Machop could be caught at the Rugged Road, Dim Cave and Scary Cave routes.

In Ruby and Sapphire, Machop could be found at Route 112, Fiery Path and Jagged Pass. It only appeared at the latter two locations in Emerald. In Diamond and Pearl, it could be found at Routes 207 and 208 as well as Mt. Coronet, while in Platinum it only appeared at Route 207.

Other Games

In Pokémon Pinball, Machop could be found at Rock Mountain and Indigo Plateau. Among the series of Pokémon e-Reader games and shorts, Machop was featured in the "Machop at Work" minigame where the player controlled it and had to crush 100 falling rocks. At the end of the game, the Machop would evolve into Machoke if it broke from 50 to 99 rocks and from that to Machamp if it had broken all 100 rocks. In Pokémon Channel, Machop appeared at Viridian Forest on clear mornings. Machop also appeared in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire at the Cave.

In Pokémon Trozei!, Machop could be found at Phobos Walker, Endless Level 27, Forever Level 27 and Mr. Who's Den. Machop was also featured in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams as one of the starter Pokémon whom the player could be transformed into at the beginning of the game depending on the answers provided to the personality quiz. Within this game, other Machop could be recruited at the fourth through eighth floors of Buried Relic and the seventeenth through twenty-fifth floors of Wish Cave. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Machop appeared at the first floor of Shimmer Desert, the first nine basement floors of Basement Cave and the first forty-eight basement floors of Final Maze.

Machop appeared at Krokka Tunnel in Pokémon Ranger. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Machop could be found at Peril Caves. Machop also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Rocky Cave.

Other Appearances

Video Games

• In Super Smash Bros. Melee, a Machop made a cameo appearance among a group of other Pokémon in the game's intro sequence.

Other Media

• Within the Pokémon anime series, a Machop was first shown as the first opponent that Ash's Primeape fought in the P1 Grand Prix. During the Hoenn episodes, Machop was shown as one of Brawly's Pokémon.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Brawly used a Machop in a fight with May that she defeated with her Combusken. Brawly used a Machoke later in in the arc, but it is unsure whether or not that is the same Machop evolved.

Trivia

• Its name is a combination of "macho" (which refers to masculinity and toughness) and "chop" (as in the type of martial arts move).
