Kahili is a Pokémon trainer who is featured as a member of Alola's Elite Four who must be battled in the seventh generation games of the Pokémon series, Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. She specializes in Flying-type Pokémon.

Background

Kahili was born to the man who owned the Hano Grand Resort on Akala Island. She showed great talent both as a Pokémon trainer and as a golfer, and she honed her skills with a daily training regimen that could take up more than ten hours. She became a champion of Alola's island challenge several years prior to the seventh generation games and also became known as a top-ranking golfer in the golf world. After completing the island challenge, she traveled the world to improve her skills as a trainer and golfer, until Professor Kukui invited her back to Alola to serve as an inaugural member of the region's Elite Four. Kahili claimed that she initially found his invitation to be annoying, but she ultimately would come to appreciate her position.

InUltra Sun/Ultra Moon, she made an appearance prior to the Elite Four challenge at Ten Carat Hill on Melemele Island. She would appear there suddenly when Elio/Selene found Flynium Z and demonstrated the pose before departing. In all versions, the trainer's first proper meeting with Kahili would come when they challenged the Elite Four. She introduced herself and battled them, only to be defeated. Afterwards, she could be battled again in rematches when rechallenging the Elite Four.

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • Kahili appeared in several episodes of the Pokémon anime during the Sun/Moon-based series. She was first featured in one episode where she met Ash and his friends while suffering from a losing streak in PokéGolf. Over the course of the episode, she regained her confidence after completing the challenge of a master caddy. Later on, she took part in the Battle Royal preliminaries of the Manaolo Conference, but she lost and was eliminated from the tournament.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Kahili appeared during the Sun/Moon arc. She was called to Alola by Hala to help in the effort against the Ultra Beasts. During the arc's climax, she fought alongside Tapu Bulu against Celesteela.

Trivia

  • Kahili is named after a Hawaiian name for various plants that resemble feathered regalia, and it is also the name of an actual golf course in Hawaii.
  • She keeps her Pokémon in Ultra Balls.
  • Her golf club has a color scheme that matches Toucannon.
  • Kahili likes using Trick Room as a handicap in her training, so that she does not rely on her Flying-type Pokémon's speed.
  • She is the only member of Alola's Elite Four who does not play a role in the storyline outside of her Elite Four appearance, and her only appearance prior to the Elite Four is an optional one in Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon.
