Politoed is a frog-like Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It is an alternate evolved form of Poliwhirl from the first generation (with Poliwrath being the other and original option) and so is potentially Poliwag's third and final form.
Information[edit]
Politoed evolves from a Poliwhirl that has been traded to another trainer while holding a King's Rock. It has a curled hair on its head which acts as proof of its status as king. The longer and curlier the hair is, the more respect that Politoed earns from others. Politoed gathers groups of others as their leader and can expand their throats to croak a tune. Their echoing cries attract Poliwag and Poliwhirl, whom obey them. Whenever three of more Politoed gather together, they sing in a voice that sounds like bellowing.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In most games, Politoed could not be found in the wild and could only be obtained by evolving a Poliwhirl. In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Politoed was rarely found by fishing in rippling water at Route 6.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Trozei!, Politoed appeared at Endless Level 61, Forever Level 11, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. It could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness they could be recruited at the first twenty-four basement floors of Lake Afar. In Pokémon Ranger, Politoed was found at Jungle Relic during a mission and at Lyra Forest during a Net Mission. It also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Canal Ruins and Ice Temple.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Politoed was first shown in an episode of the Johto series where Misty's Poliwhirl evolved into one. As a Poliwhirl it had lost a fight with a Poliwrath, which prompted her to consider evolving it, and she left it with Nurse Joy during a tournament. As it secretly had grabbed the King's Rock that Ash had won, it wound up evolving by the time Misty used it at the end of the episode against Team Rocket. As Politoed, it acted very enthusiastic and loved to cheerlead for the other Pokémon. Another episode featured Misty temporarily trading Politoed with another trainer who was angry at her own.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Gold's Poliwhirl evolved into Politoed early into the Gold/Silver/'"Crystal arc. The evolution was accidentally triggered when Silver tried trading with Gold to make his own Seadra evolve into Kingdra at Sprout Tower. It was returned to Gold after the following battle and remained part of his regular team.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a combination of "polliwog" (due to it being used in the rest of the evolutionary line despite Politoed being a fully mature amphibian) and a play on "toad".
