Sunflora is a sunflower-like Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It is the evolved form of Sunkern.

Information

Sunflora evolves from a Sunkern that has been exposed to a Sun Stone. Like many flowers, they convert solar energy into their nutrition. Sunflora is known for its habit of pursuing warm sunlight, and they usually move around hectically during the daytime. Sunflora comes to a stop when night falls, however. They close their petals and become still in the darkness after sunset. The petals on Sunflora's face become more vivid and lively whenever a hot season approaches.

Mainstream Games

Sunflora usually can only be obtained by evolving a Sunkern. In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Suflora had a rare chance of appearing in the rustling grass at Route 12.

Other Games

In Pokémon Colosseum, a Shadow Sunflora could be snagged from Cipher Peon Baila at Realgam Tower, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, it could be caught at Endless Level 54, Endless Level 58, Forever Level 4 and Mr. Who's Den. It could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, but in Explorers of Time and Darkness it could be recruited at the first twenty-nine basement floors of Mystery Jungle and the first nineteen basement floors of Happy Outlook. A non-playable Sunflora also appears in Explorers as part of the Wigglytuff guild with "Oh my gosh!" as her catchphrase. The same Sunflora is playable for one of the special episodes in Explorers of Sky, where she teams up with a Loudred and winds up defeating a Haunter. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Sunflora was found at Mitonga Road and Dark Temple.

• In the Pokémon anime, Sunflora was initially featured in an episode of the Johto series in which the citizens of a town held an annual Sunflora Contest. Another episode had Ash evolve a wild Sunkern with his Sun Stone, at which point it summoned more Sunflora to join an elderly couple for their anniversary picture. The Sunflora from the latter Mystery Dungeon games also appeared in Explorers of Time and Darkness special. Aside from that, Sunflora has made mostly minor appearances.
• In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Gold's Sunkern evolved into a Sunflora during the final battle against the Masked Man. It has remained a steady part of Gold's team and often powers other Pokémon up with its Sunny Day. It also wears a headband, seemingly reflecting its energetic nature.

Trivia

• Its name is a combination of "sun" and "flora" (which was a word used for plant lifeforms), so that its name could be interpreted as a synonym for "sunflower".
