I want to research this more, but I noticed when uploading a picture of the Donkey Kong 3 box, it said Arcade Classics Series. I think this interesting.
Perhaps the label came into use because they are mostly games that were released on older systems.
I later noticed the Light Gun Series on Duck Hunt and Programmable Series on Excitebike. I now realize that there were many labels used on most of Nintendo's early games and some of their later games. Here's what I found.
