Ampharos is a furless sheep-like Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games. It is the third and final form of Mareep's evolutionary line.
Information[edit]
Ampharos evolves from Flaaffy at Level 30. It is primarily known for the bright light which its tail emits, which can apparently be seen even from space. As its light can seen from far away, Ampharos are often used as living lighthouses, to guide lost ships to shore. It has been treasured for ancient times as a beacon, when ancient people used them to exchange signals.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
Ampharos can only be obtained through evolution or trading.
A non-playable Ampharos known as Amphy also had a role in the second generation games, where it provided light to Olivine City's lighthouse. The Ampharos fell sick, and Jasmine came to the lighthouse to take care of it. The player had to bring a SecretPotion with which the Ampharos could be cured.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Trozei!, Ampharos was found at Endless Level 10, Forever Level 5, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. It could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness they could be recruited at the sixth through ninth floors of Far Amp Plains and the first twelve basement floors of Landslide Cave. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it was found at Altru Building and Altru Tower. It also appeared in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Rasp Cavern, Layuda Mountain, Sky Fortress and the Ice Temple.
Other Appearances[edit]
Video Games[edit]
- In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Ampharos appeared as an Advanced-rank Primary Spirit (which strengthened electric attacks). When fought against in a Spirit battle, the Spirit of Ampharos would possess a giant Pichu and fight above an electrified floor.
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Amphy the Ampharos appeared in several episodes of the Johto series where, as in the games, Ash's group had to bring Jasmine medicine for Amphy before she would accept Ash's gym challenge. Amphy also used its abilities to guide the plane which Ash and his friends were taking back to Olivine after it had been blown off course.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Amphy was shown as one of Jasmine's Pokémon during the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc. Jasmine was trapped in the Tin Tower when it was collapsing and used Amphy to send out a signal which attracted both Gold and Silver, who then tried to save them. She later used Amphy during the gym leader competition, but Brock's Kabutops was able to easily beat it.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a combination of "amp" (a word for electrical current) and "pharos" (which is Greek for "lighthouse").
