Excadrill is a steel-covered mole-like Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. It is the evolved form of Drilbur.

Information

Excadrill evolves from Drilbur at Level 31. Its drill-like hands as well as the drill on its head have evolved into steel strong enough to bore through iron plates. They build mazelike nests more than 300 feet below the surface. Because of their proficiency, they are sometimes employed for tunnel construction. However, their activities have also been destructive to subway tunnels.

Appearances

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Excadrill only appeared in swirling dust at Victory Road, Challenger's Cave and Giant Chasm.

Other Games

In Pokémon Rumble Blast, Excadrill appeared at at the caves of Shimmering Lake and the second floor of World Axle. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, Excadrill appeared at Verdant Court in the Arbor Area and was befriended through battle.

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • In the Pokémon anime, Excadrill was eventually revealed as one of Iris's Pokémon. She did not show she had it until nine episodes into the Unova series and was reluctant to use it due to it being disobedient. This Excadrill seemed to be powerful, but it usually refused to attack unless it was in direct danger. The backstory of the Excadrill and how it evolved from Iris's Drilbur was later shown in flashback. It was revealed that Excadrill's disobedience was due to the shame it felt from losing to Drayden's Haxorus at the end of the tournament that it had evolved during. Excadrill eventually became more confident and began obeying Iris again after she helped him to master Focus Blast in order to battle an opponent trainer's Beartic. An Excadrill was later shown as part of Clay's team and was a lifelong companion that had helped Clay to build his underground gym.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Excadrill was featured as one of Clay's Pokémon during the Black/White arc.

Trivia

  • Its name is a combination of "excavate" and "drill".
