Beautifly is a butterfly-like Pokémon that was introduced in the third generation games. It is the third and final form in one branch of Wurmple's branching evolutionary line, and its counterpart on the alternate branch is Dustox.

Information[edit]

Beautifly evolves from a Silcoon at Level 10. Beautifly has a long mouth that resembles a coiled needle which is useful for collecting pollen from flowers. Pollen is its favorite food, and an easy way to lure on in is by leaving a potted flower by an open window. It constantly flies on the spring winds and through flower-covered fields looking for pollen. Beautifly is also known for its colorfully patterned wings. Despite its appearance, Beautifly is actually aggressive and if angered or disturbed while collecting pollen, it will ferociously attack by jabbing the offender with its mouth. Beautifly also uses this same mouth to extract the fluids from its prey.

Appearances[edit]

Mainstream Games[edit]

In most games, Beautifly could be only obtained by evolving a Silcoon. They could be rarely found in the wild in the fourth generation's Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, appearing at Route 224 in all three versions. In Diamond it was also found at Route 230 and Eterna Forest, while in Platinum it was also found at Route 205's northern area, Route 229 and Eterna Forest. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Beautifly could be caught at the National Park during the Bug-Catching Contests on Saturdays after the National Pokédex was unlocked.

Other Games[edit]

Beautifly could only be obtained through evolution in Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams. In Pokémon Trozei!, it could be found at Endless Level 19, Forever Level 19, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den. In Pokémon Ranger, it was found at Olive Jungle. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness, Beautifly could be recruited along Mt. Horn (at all floors that were not multiples of three), at Lush Prairie and at Midnight Forest.

Other Appearances[edit]

Other Media[edit]

  • In the Pokémon anime, during the Hoenn series one episode featured an experienced Pokémon Coordinator named Janet who used a Beautifly for contests and inspired May as a Pokémon Coordinator. May eventually acquired a Wurmple which eventually evolved into a Beautifly not long afterwards (which was contrasted by Jessie's Dustox), and she used it for various contests throughout the Hoenn series before ultimately leaving it at her father's gym in Petalburg City before she left for the Battle Frontier. May still did bring Beautifly back in several future appearances, such as the Wallace Cup during the Sinnoh series. One episode of the Sinnoh series also featured Aaron being reunited with a Beautifly that had grown from a Wurmple he had abandoned in his childhood due to thinking it was too weak. The Beautifly was able to prove its strength and became part of Aaron's team. Beautily have also made various other more minor appearances.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Beautifly was shown as one of Winona's Pokémon during the Ruby/Sapphire arc.

Trivia[edit]

  • Its name is a combination of "beauty" and "butterfly".
