Burmy is a cloaked insect Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games. It has three different forms depending on its environment. Burmy evolves into either Wormadam or Mothim depending on its gender.
Information[edit]
Burmy usually wrap themselves within twigs and leaves to protect themselves from cold weather. The cloak becomes thinner in warm weather. If the cloak is broken in battle, Burmy will quickly remake it using nearby materials. It always winds up with a cloak, even if it is not born with cocooning materials nearby. This is what causes it to gain its alternate forms, with its default forms being the plant cloak, which is formed in wooded areas, and its form will usually change after it fights in a certain environment. Burmy will gain a sandy cloak after battling in caves or sandy areas such as deserts and beaches, and it will gain a trash cloak after fighting within buildings.
Burmy evolves into Level 20, which differs depending on its gender. Female Burmy will evolve into Wormadam. The Wormadam will notably permanently be in the form that Burmy was in at the time of evolution and will have special abilities based on this. Male Burmy instead evolved into Mothim.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Burmy could be found only from honey-covered trees. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it could appear when headbutting a certain tree at Route 38.
Other Games[edit]
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness, the Plant Cloak Burmy was found at the first five floors of Lush Prairie, the Sandy Cloak Burmy was found at at the first five floors of Apple Woods, and the Trash Cloak Burmy was found at the first four floors of Oran Forest. In Explorers of Time, Burmy could only be recruited following a Wonder Mail mission which required meeting a Burmy at the thirteenth floor of Marine Resort. In Pokémon Rumble, it appeared at Silent Forest. Burmy also appeared in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure at the Meeting Place.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Burmy made several appearances in the Sinnoh series starting in one of the first episodes where Dawn made a failed attempt to catch one. A later episode featured Cheryl catching one at Eterna Forest. She specifically caught a male one due to needing a Mothim (being shown to already have one Wormadam for each cloak), and it evolved by the end of the episode while fighting Team Rocket. The anime notably showed what Burmy looked like without a cloak.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Burmy was shown as the main Pokémon of one of the two bodyguards during the Diamond/Pearl arc.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name seems to be a combination of "bag" and "wormy" as a play on "bagworm" (the species it is based on).
