Mario Sports Mix is a sports game featuring Super Mario characters that was developed by Square Enix (who had previously developed Mario Hoops 3-on-3 for the Nintendo DS) for the Nintendo Wii. This game features Mario and his friends participating in a variety of sports games consisting of basketball, volleyball, hockey, and dodgeball.

Story

Four crystals fall from the sky and crash within the Mushroom Kingdom, each crystal bearing an image representing a different sport. This inspires several Toads to begin holding games and tournaments for each of these sports. A team from the crystals' original world later arrives seeking to claim the crystals instead.

Gameplay

There are four different sports games to be chosen from (basketball, volleyball, hockey, or dodgeball). The gameplay is influenced by Mario Hoops, along with the addition of ? Panels which can grant the players items to use during games. The playable characters are able to perform a variety of moves that are unique to the character (such as Mario's spin jump and Bowser's shell defenses). Characters also have other special abilities exclusive to the character (similar to those in Mario Hoops 3-on-3) which can be used to cause disastrous effects during the game. This game also supports online multiplayer.

Playable Characters

This game features nineteen characters in total; 12 characters from the Mario series, and 5 being from Square Enix's Final Fantasy series. The player also has the chance to play as their own Mii in the game.

Mario series characters: Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Wario, Waluigi, Toad, Yoshi, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong.

Final Fantasy characters: Ninja, White Mage, Black Mage, Moogle and Cactuar.

Other characters: Mii, Slime (Dragon Quest series)
