Mario Golf: World Tour is a Mario-themed golf game that was released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2014. It was the fifth game of the Mario Golf series and was released a decade after the previous game.
Gameplay[edit]
This game moves away from the RPG elements and original characters of the previous handheld Mario Golf installments in favor of focusing purely on playing golf itself and featuring only established Mario characters. This game utilizes the touch screen for details such selecting clubs, initiating shots and adding spin. Players could also alter a shot's trajectory by making movements with the touch screen or circle pad. This installment also implemented a new gameplay feature known as Item Shots, which involved players using items to enhance shots with special effects.
World Tour is divided into several modes. There are a variety of Single Player modes where the player can take part in different types of golf matches, a Challenges mode where the player can try to accomplish specific objectives, a multiplayer Vs. Mode (which supports up to 4 players, but without any Download Play) and Castle Club. Castle Club acts as the game's story mode, in which the player can control a Mi and take on different tournaments. Toad's Booth is also available as an area to check records, game data and tutorials, as well as to purchase DLC.
This was also the first Mario Golf game to feature online connectivity. Online tournaments could be arranged, and characters/courses could be purchased as DLC.

Each of the characters who are initially available also have a Stronger Star version that is unlocked by completing their respective character challenges in Challenges.

Legacy[edit]
There has yet to be another Mario Golf game, but golf was one of the sports featured in the 2017 3DS game Mario Sports Superstars. The golf portion of the game, developed by Camelot, mostly utilized gameplay and graphical elements from World Tour.
