Kirby: Planet Robobot is a platforming adventure game for the Nintendo 3DS and the fifteenth main game of the Kirby series.

Story[edit]

Popstar has been attacked by a spaceship known as the Access Ark, which has begun to colonize the planet. After both King Dedede and Meta Knight's attempts at resistance failed, Kirby stepped up to fight the invaders. In this adventure, Kirby clashed with the Haltmann Works Company, who are looking to revive a wish-granting supercomputer known as Star Dream.

Gameplay[edit]

The gameplay of this game is mostly based on what was established in the previous entry, Kirby: Triple Deluxe. This game also adds new Copy abilities and a special mech suit known as the Robobot Armor. The armor has its own variation on Kirby's Copy ability with its ability to scan enemies. Kirby can collect stickers to customize the armor, as well as Code Cubes, which can be used to access bonus levels. The game also has amiibo compatibility, as scanning certain amiibos can unlock items and abilities.

There are also unlockable companion modes to the main story. There is Meta Knightmare Returns, in which the player controls Meta Knight in a harder version of the game. There is also The Arena, where players fight boss enemies with limited healing items. Another version called The True Arena can also be unlocked, which includes the Meta Knightmare Returns versions of bosses, which have to be defeated by Kirby.

As with Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot has two extra minigame modes. One is Team Kirby Clash, which is an RPG adventure that can be played by up to four players. The other is Kirby 3D Rumble, where the player controls Kirby traveling along a 3D plane and trying to destroy enemies as quickly as possible.

Legacy[edit]

Ports/Remakes[edit]

  • As with the minigames from Triple Deluxe, both of the minigames from Planet Robobot were later expanded upon and made available as individual games through the 3DS's eShop in 2017. Team Kirby Clash was made into Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, and Kirby 3D Rumble was made into Kirby's Blowout Blast. Team Kirby Clash Deluxe was notably made available as a free-to-start game which included in-game purchases, a first for the Kirby series.
  • In 2019, Team Kirby Clash Deluxe was remade for the Nintendo Switch as Super Kirby Clash. Like the previous version, it was a free-to-start game.

Sequels[edit]

The next Kirby game would be a fighting game, Kirby Battle Royale, which was released in 2017. The next platforming game was Kirby Star Allies for the Nintendo Switch in 2018.
