Kurthnaga is a supporting character in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, as well as a playable unit in the latter game.

Background[edit]

Kurthnaga was the youngest of Dheginsea's three children and was the last dragon born until the aftermath of Radiant Dawn. He wound up being the only one of his siblings remaining in Goldoa after both his sister Almedha and brother Rajaion left for their own reasons and both wound up entrapped in the schemes of Ashnard, which made retrieving them nearly impossible without breaking Goldoa's oath of neutrality. Throughout his youth, Kurtnaga was watched over by his bodyguard, Gareth. He was very friendly and curious about the world of beorcs

Path of Radiance[edit]

He first appeared at the end of "Chapter 12: A Strange Land", when he called off a group of dragons who were attacking a ship that was passing through. Talking to their representative Ike more peacefully, unaware that the ship was actually owned by the runaway dragon Nasir, he sent Gareth and the others to liberate the scuttled ship and prepared supplies. Ike was the first beorc Kurthnaga had met and despite his initial frankness towards the prince, which he subsequently apologized for, Kurthnaga was pleased to meet him and wished he could talk with him longer had his father not forbidden such contact with the outside world. Kurthnaga later accompanied Dheginsea at the meeting of the laguz kings and helped in making his protest against the Kilvas ravens for their piracy of Ike's ship, having identified one of the passengers as resembling Princess Elincia.

Radiant Dawn[edit]

Part 1: Silver-Haired Maiden[edit]

Three years later, Kurthnaga secretly left Goldoa on his own journey to find his sister, presumably because it was safer with the threat of Ashnard gone. However, while in Daein he was apprehended by forces of the Begnion Occupational Army and held in Glaive Prison, in a cell with Micaiah, Laura, Ilyana and Aimee. He offered his olivi grass to Micaiah to help her in treating her wound in "Chapter 3: A Faint Light" and soon after was set free by Sothe with the other inhabitants of the cell. They were able to successfully protect Kurthnaga and Aimee. Afterwards Kurthnaga traveled with the group, although he kept his appearance hidden behind a cloak, as well as his abilities and gave his name as only "Kurth". He enjoyed his time with them but at the same time was frightened to be so close to violence. He later met Almedha after Micaiah joined with the Daein Liberation Army in "Chapter 6: Raise the Standard". Seeing that she was determined to stay at Pelleas's side, he left her with a sending-stone to use to contact him if she needed him and then departed to return to Goldoa, but not before saying goodbye to Micaiah and giving her a Renewal scroll.

Part 3: Intersecting Vows[edit]

In "Chapter 12: The Price", Almedha called Kurthnaga over the sending-stone to help Pelleas. He and Ena then decided to travel north to Daein to stop the massive war that was breaking out across Tellius as well as ensure Almedha's safety. Along the way they met with Elincia, and they arrived at the battlefield together at the end of "Chapter 13: Blood Contract", Kurthnaga immediately breaking up the fighting by breaking a castle wall in dragon form. He then met with the Daein forces and after ensuring Almedha's safety, began negotiating with them to stop fighting. However, he found that Daein was bound to serve Begnion by a blood pact, so Kurthnaga volunteered to help protect the Daein forces until they could find a way to destroy the blood pact, while telling them more about how to stop the blood pact. He fought for Daein in "Endgame: Daein, Arise". However, once he began fighting he was traumatized by taking his first lives, which caused him to panic and feel like his body was on fire.

Part 4: Of Gods and Men[edit]

After the battle ended, all the remaining forces were divided into three armies to combat the new threat of Ashera. Kurthnaga gave Ena sending-stones to distribute to the three herons so that the armies could keep in touch and was himself assigned to the Greil Army. However, he then remained confined to his tent where he continued to suffer his post-traumatic stress, as well as a fear of blood, refusing meals and speaking to no one. In "Chapter 1: Road to the Empire", Ike confronted Kurthnaga and was able to get him into a conversation, introducing himself as he had forgotten to during their last meeting and thanking him for his help back then. Kurthnaga then told Ike about his reasons for siding with Daein and his siblings. At Kurthnaga's inquiring, Ike told him that Rajaion had died peacefully in Ena's arms, which Kurthnaga saw as a great relief, and he realized he felt better after talking over his problems with Ike.

However, in "Final Chapter: Rebirth", Kurthnaga was shocked to find that the rest of the dragon tribe had sided with Ashera. In the "Dragons" base conversation, the two siblings and Ena were confronted by Nasir, who told them more about the Goldoan situation. Kurthnaga began to feel guilt by involving himself in the war, but he refused Nasir's request for him to join his father serving Ashera, as he refused to accept Ashera's judgment and simply be turned into stone like the rest. To there dismay they eventually faced Dheginsea in the tower and defeated him in combat. Dheginsea then placed the surviving dragons, including Nasir and Gareth (if either had not been killed in the battle), under Kurthnaga's command. Kurthnaga promised to return for him, but soon after leaving the room they sensed his death. Kurthnaga saw this as another reason to move on and stand before Ashera as king of the dragon tribe.

Following the war, Kurthnaga ruled over Goldoa and helped to arbitrate conflicts between nations to guard the peace that so many had died for.
