Laruto is a Zora who appears as the Sage of Earth in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

Background

Laruto was born at the Zora's Domain. She was chosen by the king to become the Sage of Earth and offered her prayers at the Earth Temple through the songs she played on her harp. These prayers were to strengthen the power of the Master Sword, and the king used to conduct her using the Wind Waker. Laruto was believed to be safe at the Earth Temple when the flood came, but Ganondorf was able to find and kill her at some point.

Her spirit remained within the Earth Temple. When Link arrived there, she appeared before him and taught him the Earth God's Lyric. She wanted him to find her descendant and teach the Lyric to her so that she could become the new Earth Sage. Laruto was confident that her bloodline lived on. Link was able to bring Medli, who had the same harp. Laruto's spirit continued to appear when Medli played the Earth God's Lyric to play along with her, and the spirit disappeared after Medli played the song at the main altar, revitalizing the Master Sword.

Trivia

• Her name is a play on the name of the Zora princess Ruto.
• Laruto's implied relation with Medli also notably implies a connection between the Zora and Rito races.
• In Hyrule Warriors, Ruto has an unlockable outfit called "Standard (Great Sea)" which is based on Laruto's outfit.
