Nabooru was one of the Six Sages who were featured in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Background

Nabooru was one of the Gerudo thieves who operated in Gerudo Valley. She had a strong code of honor, which seemed to lead to her operating on her own, as she was one of the few Gerudos who openly distrusted their king, Ganondorf. Nabooru saw his lack of morals and sought some way to overthrow him. She eventually attempted to infiltrate Ganondorf's base of operations, the Spirit Temple. She planned to loot all of Ganondorf's treasure that was stored there in order to foil his plans. However, she found that she needed the Silver Gauntlets to proceed through the Spirit Temple, and the path to the Silver Gauntlets was an opening to narrow for her to squeeze through.

However, fate brought a young boy named Link to her side. She convinced Link to aid her in her vendetta against Ganondorf by getting the Silver Gauntlets for her, and promised to do something great for him in return. Link succeeded in finding them, but he returned to Nabooru too late. By then, she had been captured by the Gerudo witches Twinrova.

Nabooru was brainwashed by Twinrova's magic over the next seven years into becoming Ganondorf's second-in-command, acting as cruel and brutal as Ganondorf himself. When Link found her in the Spirit Temple, Twinrova had her attack Link in the armor of an Iron Knuckle. After Link destroyed the armor, Nabooru regained her memory. Twinrova quickly recaptured Nabooru and battled Link shortly afterwards.

After Twinrova was slain by Link, he and Nabooru were transported to the Chamber of Sages. Nabooru was awakened as the Sage of Spirit and gave Link the Spirit Medallion. Seeing Link as an adult made her regret not keeping her promise, and she told Link to pay back Ganondorf in full. After uniting with the other sages, Nabooru used her new power combined with theirs to create a rainbow bridge leading to Ganon's Castle and to later seal Ganondorf in the Dark Realm. Nabooru traveled in the form of a yellow sprite to Death Mountain with the other sages in the ending, and from their perch they witnessed the Lon Lon Ranch festivities.

• Nabooru appears in some of the last few chapters of the Ocarina of Time manga. Because Link does not travel back to his childhood years in this version, he does not meet Nabooru until his adult years. She is initially brainwashed by Twinrova through a gem on her head, but after the gem is shattered, she regains her senses and acts as an ally to Link, providing him with the Mirror Shield and accompanying him until she was awakened as Sage of Spirit when they reached Ganon's Tower.

Trivia

• Nabooru shares her name with a town in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. This was done to give a greater sense of history in the games, as it comes with the implication that the towns were named after the sages.
• Nabooru also appears on a stain glass window in The Wind Waker along with depictions of the other sages.
• She is directly referenced in Breath of the Wild. The Divine Beast assigned to the Gerudo, Vah Naboris is named after Gerudo. The Gerudo champion Urbosa also mentions Nabooru's name when talking to Vah Naboris about its namesake. Additionally, the mountain bordering the Gerudo Desert is named Mount Nabooru in reference to her.
