Oren is a supporting character from The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds who appeared as one of the game's seven sages as well as being the queen of the Zoras.
Background[edit]
Oren resided at Zora's Domain and ruled over the River Zoras of Hyrule. Unlike other River Zoras, she was not hostile towards other races and attempted to discourage her people from attacking others, but most River Zoras were too territorial to obey that order. Oren often stayed in her pool at Zora's Domain, but she was also known to go on high-speed swims down Hyrule's rivers. She apparently had a large amount of power, so much so that it could cause her body to bloat to an incredible size. However, she counteracted this effect by wearing a smooth gem that inhibited her power and kept her at a normal Zora size.
During the events of A Link Between Worlds, Oren's smooth gem was stolen by a thief. This caused her to bloat and get stuck in her own pool. Link was able to return her gem to her, which restored her to her normal self. She thanked Link by giving him the Zora's Flippers and warned him about the other Zoras. Soon afterwards, Oren went missing while she was out on a swim. She had been captured by Yuga and turned into a painting because of her status as part of the new seven sages. The paintings of the seven sages and Princess Zelda were then used by Yuga in a ritual to revive Ganon. Afterwards, the paintings were distributed to different bosses across Lorule. Oren's painting was kept at the Swamp Palace and guarded by Arrghus.
Link eventually rescued her, at which point she was awakened as a sage and transported to the Chamber of Sages. There, she thanked Link for helping her again and implored him to find the other sages so that she could return to her people. Once all of the sages were freed, they combined their powers to summon the Triforce of Courage for Link. After the crisis was resolved, the sages were all returned to Hyrule. Oren reclaimed her place at Zora's Domain, and her subjects celebrated her return.
Trivia[edit]
- Her name is derived from the color 'orange'. All or most of the new sages introduced in A Link Between Worlds were named after different colors.
- In Breath of the Wild, there is an Oren Bridge within Zora territory that is named after her.
