Blind the Thief is a villain who appeared as a boss in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

Background[edit]

Blind was the leader of a gang of thieves who were based within Kakariko Village in the land of Hyrule. His eyes were sensitive to bright lights, so he developed a hatred for it and operated primarily in the darkness. He was among those who entered the Dark World, presumably seeking the Triforce, only to be transformed into a demonic monster in a reflection of his true nature. Blind gained new abilities in this form, such as the ability to spit fireballs. Additionally, he could make his head detach and float around while growing a new head in its place. He also had a shapeshifting ability.

In A Link to the Past, he had become one of Ganon's lieutenants and was based within Thieves' Town, which was the Dark World counterpart to Kakariko Village. He was given one of the maiden descendents of the seven sages to hold captive. Link eventually came looking for the maiden, so Blind laid a trap for him. He used his powers to take on the form of a maiden and locked himself in a cell, to trick Link into 'rescuing' her. In this form, he followed Link around and asked to go another way when Link tried to leave through the entrance. Eventually, Blind's disguise as undone when Link lend him to a room where a light shone on him. Blind revealed his true form and proceeded to fight Link. He was defeated in the following battle, leaving behind the crytal containing the true maiden.

In the Game Boy Advance remake, Blind made another appearance at the Temple of the Four Sword. This time, he attempted to pose as Link's Uncle. Once again, light ultimately revealed the truth. Blind battled Link again and was defeated once more.

Stalblind[edit]

Another version of Blind lived in the alternate world of Lorule. Like his other counterpart, he operated out of Thieves' Town and was the boss of a gang of thieves. He looked somewhat similar to the other Blind, except that he was larger as well as being more spectral and skeletal in nature. Known as Stalblind, he wielded a sword and shield while also having the ability to detach his head from his body.

After the seven sages of Hyrule were turned into paintings and brought to Lorule in A Link Between Worlds, Stalblind was entrusted with the painting of Osfala. He kept it locked away in a small house near the thieves' hideout at Thieves' Town. The only person who knew about this was a Thief Girl who he locked away to keep silent. Eventually, Link entered the dungeon and saved the Thief Girl. As he tried to escape with her, Stalblind refused to let her leave and proceeded to battle Link. In the following battle, Link was able to destroy him.

Trivia[edit]

  • His name refers to his problem with light as well as the saying "robbed blind". As Stalblind, the "stal" in his name refers to the skeletal enemy Stalfos and is often used in the names of similarly undead beings.
