Emmet, along with his brother Ingo, is one of the Subway Bosses who run the Battle Subway in Pokémon: Black and White Versions as well as in their sequels.
Background
Emmet and Ingo were a set of twins who ran Unova's Battle Subway together while based within Nimbasa's Gear Station. Emmet was the more upbeat of the two, who had a habit of repeating himself and drawing out words for emphasis, including re-introducing himself multiple times. Emmet states that he takes battles seriously in order to make them more fun, adding that he enjoys winning battles more than anything else. Both brothers shared a habit of using train-related terms in their speech and generally encouraged others to ride the train more and improve themselves.
In Black/White and Black 2/White 2, they could appear as opponents in Battle Subway trains. Emmet himself had a preference for Double Battles due to appreciating different combinations of Pokémon, and so he could be battled in the 21st battle of the Double Train and the 49th battle of the Super Double Train. Alternately, both Subway Bosses could be battled together in the Multi and Super Multi Lines. In Black 2 and White 2, before taking on the Battle Subway, Nate and Rosa had to take Emmet and Ingo on in a Multi Battle outside the Nimbasa City station.
Pokémon Roster
Emmet uses four Pokémon in Double Battles and only two when battling alongside Ingo in a Multi Battle. Emmet and Ingo draw mostly from the same Pokémon roster, although Emmet has some different Pokémon due to having one additional Pokémon in his team for Double Battles, and he also uses Pokémon that Ingo doesn't in Multi Battles. Different Pokémon are used in the normal and Super versions of a particular line.
When battled on a normal version of the Double Train, he uses the following Pokémon:
On the Multi Train, he uses only Galvantula and Durant.
When battled in the Super Double Train, he uses the following Pokémon:
On the Super Multi Train, he uses Eelektross and Archeops.
In Black 2 and White 2, during the initial Multi Battle against them, Emmet uses a Boldore.
In Other Pokémon Games
In Pokémon Masters EX, Emmet and Archeops appeared as a playable sync pair that could be recruited at random through the game's Sync Pair Scout feature after being added to the game in June 2021. A special costume variant paired with Escavalier was also made available during limited time periods, starting in April 2022. It was mentioned that Emmet's Escavalier and Ingo's Accelgor were the result of the two brothers trading with each other. Emmet and Ingo, in their special costumes, were featured in the "Curious Tea Party" Costume Event, where they presented one of the puzzles for Sonia's tea party while musing on the similarities and differences between their current butler-like roles and their usual roles as Subway Bosses.
Other Appearances
Other Media
- In the Pokémon anime, the twins first appeared in two episodes during the Unova series where they tried to investigate something that was disturbing the train tracks, and they were shown to be past acquaintances of Cilan due to their shared love of trains. The culprit behind the train troubles was Team Rocket, but they ultimately evaded Emmet and Ingo. They subsequently were featured in a two-part episode where they teamed up with Ash's group to stop Team Rocket after they had sabotaged the subway and stolen Pokémon from the Pokémon Center. Several episodes later, they helped Ash and Cilan to find a girl's missing Axew and decided to reward their good deed with a double battle, in which Emmet and Ingo were able to defeat Ash and Cilan.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, they appeared during the Black/White arc. They ran the newly-opened Battle Subway and acted as mentors as White when she wanted to start battling. They were shown as having a love of battles but being quite eccentric to the point of occasionally frightening White.
Trivia
- Emmet's Japanese name is Kudari, which is based on the Japanese name for 'down-train', the opposite of Ingo's name. His English name of Emmet may be intended to sound like "emit", which could refer to an outgoing train.
- Ingo wears black, while Emmet wears white, in reference to the yin-yang theme which is present throughout Black/White. Additionally, Ingo seems to be frowning in his official artwork, while Emmet is smiling.
