Panpour is an aquatic monkey Pokémon that was introduced in the fifth generation games. It forms part of a trio of elemental monkeys with Pansage and Pansear. Its evolved form is Simisage.

Information

Panpour has a tuft on its head which is usually filled with water. Plants can grow large with the water on its head. They do not thrive in dry environments, although in such situations it keeps itself damp by shooting the water from its head tuft to its tail.

A Panpour evolves into Simipour when it is exposed to a Water Stone.

Appearances

Mainstream Games

In Pokémon: Black and White Versions, Panpour can be received as a gift from a trainer at the Dreamyard if the player had chosen Snivy as a starter Pokémon, in order to give the trainer an edge against Striation City's gym leader. Within these versions, wild Panpour only rarely appeared in rustling grass at Pinwheel Forest and Lostlorn Forest.

Other Games

In Pokémon Rumble Blast, Panpour appeared at Beginner's Park and the beach areas of Seabreeze Trail and Echo Valley. In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, Panpour and Pansear would appear at Cove Town after they were retrieved by the Wish Park, and all of the monkeys were befriended by talking to Pansage following this.

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • Panpour was shown in an episode of the Pokémon anime as one of Cress's Pokémon. It notably defeated Ash's Pikachu, and Ash's victory was only due to winning against the other brothers. Other Panpour have made more minor appearances, including one episode showing a Panpour among Iris's group of Pokémon friends when she was younger.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Panpour was used as Cress's Pokémon during a three-on-three gym battle early in the Black/White arc. It fought Black's Tepig to a standstill and could be said to have performed the best in the battle, as Cilan's Pansage accidentally healed the wounded opponents while Chili's Pansear was actually knocked out, which caused them to lose when the time limit expired with the Pokédex trainers' Pokémon still intact.

Trivia

  • Its name is a combination of "pan" (the name of the genus containing chimpanzees) with "pour" (the action of releasing liquids).
  • The design of the three elemental monkeys seems to have been inspired by the "three wise monkeys" proverb which is an old part of Japanese philosophy. Panpour's eyes are usually shown to be closed, so it seems to be based on "see no evil".
