Geriik is a playable unit in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones and the only recruitable Mercenary.

Background

In his early life, Gerik was a gambler of some talent in his local village. However his friend from his childhood continued to insist on his ambitions to become a mercenary by joining the mercenary's guild in Jehanna. Though Gerik wasn't interested in the fame or had any ambition in fighting, he decided he couldn't let his friend go off and died and accompanied him and became a mercenary. Though his friend eventually did go off and die, Gerik had made new friends and couldn't pull himself away the occupation, as he felt he could do good by protecting them. He eventually became quite skilled at the trade and became quite confident in his abilities, though he was soon humbled when he was faced with a soldier of superior skill. Gerik earned his distinctive scar that day, but his life was spared. From then on, he became much more humble.

His fame increased after that point and he began forming his own company. At one point he even faced Garcia when he fought a battle against Renais, though Gerik was bested by the superior fighter. Another battle cost him the life of a friend when he was killed by Saleh, though later events would cause Saleh and Gerik to be on the same side after Saleh saved the mercenary's life. His fame continued to increase even to the point that the king of Frelia had heard of him and thought very highly of him. Among his mercenaries he recruited the dancer Tethys and the swordswoman Marisa, both women who greatly admired him and held feelings for him, though Tethys was less private about it than her 'rival'.

When war broke out between Grado and the rest of Magvel, Ferik was hired by Prince Innes to protect him. In Eirika's path, they are nearly captured by Grado forces when they are surrounded, but are rescued by Eirika's timely arrival, prompting them to join her company. In Ephraim's path, they are sent by Innes to meet up with Ephraim and to protect him. Afterwards Gerik continued to fight alongside them until Grado's eventual defeat.

Possible Fates

Marisa has four different endings, depending on whether he reaches A-Support with Tethys, Marisa, or Joshua.

  • Default Ending - For awhile Gerik continued his mercenary life until eventually he became so famous that there were more jobs than he could handle. One day he simply vanished without warning.
  • Tethys and Gerik Ending - With no ties to any nation or authority, the two eventually bought themselves a comfortable retirement where Gerik taught fencing to city youths and Tethys continued to dance on the stage.
  • Marisa and Gerik Ending - Gerik continued his life as a mercenary and Marisa became the company's fencing instructor. He would eventually return the affection she gave him, though he soon learned that she was clumsy at everything but fighting.
  • Joshua and Gerik Ending - Following the war, Gerik and Joshua finally had their duel which ended in a tie. Gerik was impressed by Joshua's swagger that he ended up never leaving the Jehanna prince's side.

Support Conversation Summaries

Gerik is capable of support conversations with six other characters.

  • Tethys - The dancer tells Gerik that she's been dancing so much lately that she might shed even more weight and become 'more alluring', leading the two to banter about dinner and a 'treasure' Gerik would soon find. When Gerik asks Tethys when she first became a dancer, she promises to tell him about it later. In their later conversation, Tethys tells Gerik the story of how they were abandoned as a child and Tethys learned to dance by imitating another dancer. When they speak next, Tethys asks Gerik about his scar. He explains how he used to be cocky in battle and he received the scar from a superior knight who spared his life. The two decide that because the dancer and the knight served as their inspirations, they should work on doing the same for others.
  • Marisa - After Gerick checks in on Marisa to make sure shes' doing okay, Marisa convinces him to talk to her more and asks if he likes sociable women. When he points out that sociable women get more attention, she decides to make an effort to be more social. When they meet again, Marisa has been silent lately and she explains she's been practicing being social. When Gerik ask to see it, she makes him vow not to laugh. She then follows up with "Hello, Gerik! Wonderful day for a battle, isn't it!", which prompts him to burst out with laughter. When they talk again, Marisa is still angry at him laughing. However after he apologizes a few times, she finally forgives him and hints towards her feelings about him, but quickly closes up when Gerik presses her about it.
  • Innes - When they talk, Innes apologizes for his previous orders when he demanded that Gerik leave him behind when they were outnumbered by the enemy. Innes explains that he always tried to be a model commander, but that perhaps he had been too severe and wondered how Gerik remained so levelheaded in battle. In their next conversation, Innes compliments the efforts of the 'desert tiger', which surprises Gerik that even royalty knows of him. Gerik explains however that despite his fame, fighting isn't really his nature and explains how he became a mercenary and lost many friends as a result. He insists that he doesn't want to see Innes die, as he doesn't want to have to try and forget another comrade. In their last conversation, Innes relates that his father told him to watch Gerik and to learn from him and that he had finally understood what his father meant. Gerik however insists that Innes is a better man than he, pointing out how hard he works for his pride, even when he gets beaten, that the prince constantly fights to maintain it. Filled with confidence, Innes declares that when he is king, he will make Gerik the general of his army.
  • Ross - In their first conversation, Ross approaches Gerik hoping that the mercenary would teach him a few skills, explaining that he wants to be able to live up to the title of 'Son of Garcia'. Later Ross asks Gerik if he's ever been on a sea voyage and Gerik explains that when he went that the sea sickness was more brutal than the enemies they went to face. When Ross asks how he should become stronger, Gerik replies that it's all in the mind. Ross realizes that by thinking it was impossible to beat Gerik in a duel, he had been setting himself up for defeat. In their last conversation, Ross asks Gerik why the sword is stronger than the axe, explaining that he would like to be able to shatter a silver sword with an iron axe. Gerik relates to him when he first met Garcia in battle and how he had been so intimidated that he lost the duel as a result. Ross is emboldened and declares that he's not just the son of Garcia, but also the best student of Gerik.
  • Saleh - The mercenary greets Saleh, remarking how unusual it is the two of them are working together. Saleh begins to ask Gerik a question, but changes the subject. When they speak again, Gerik brings up the elder of Caer Pelyn and says that Saleh should be more considerate to his grandmother, not just by taking care of her, but by doing something nice for her like buying her some jewelry. In their last conversation, Saleh finally comes out and asks if Gerik hates him for what happened to Gerik's friend, whom Saleh had accidentally killed in an old battle. Gerik however insists that he's forgiven Saleh for that and that as mercenaries it just comes with the job. Saleh says that Gerik is a good man, but Gerik dismisses it and insists that when it's all over, he'll go visit Caer Pelyn and let Saleh throw a feast for him.
