Electabuzz is a yellow, furry electric Pokémon that was introduced in the first generation games. It originally had no evolution line, but it was later found to evolve from the baby form Elekid in the second generation games and into Electivire in the fourth generation games.
Information[edit]
Electabuzz evolves from Elekid at Level 30. Electricity runs along the surface of their bodies, which they constantly discharge. They love to feed on electricity and often appear near power plants to eat the electricity there, which causes most blackouts. Its body glows whitish-blue in the darkness. When two Electabuzz touch, they control the electric current to express their feelings.
Just getting close to one will cause a person's hair to stand on end. When storms approach, gangs of Electabuzz compete in scaling heights that are likely to be hit by lightning. Many towns use Electabuzz as lightning rods. Electabuzz also windmill their arms slightly to make their punches stronger, but opponents have been known to escape in the meantime. It evolves into Electivire when it is traded while holding an Electirizer.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Red and FireRed, Electabuzz was uncommonly found at the Power Plant. In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Electabuzz rarely appeared at Route 10, although it was a bit more common in the daytime. In HeartGold/SoulSilver, they could also appear in the Safari Zone's Forest area with the presence of Rock objects.
In Platinum, Electabuzz was uncommonly found on Route 222 and was less common at night.
Other Games[edit]
Multiple Electabuzz can be photographed at the Tunnel in Pokémon Snap, where they can power up machine and dance after Zapdos awoke. In Pokémon Pinball, Electabuzz appeared at Lavender Town. In Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, a Shadow Electabuzz could be snagged from Cipher Admin Ardos on Citadark Island, and after being purified this Electabuzz could be transferred to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Trozei!, it appeared at Secret Storage 7 and Mr. Who's Den.
In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams, it could only be obtained by evolving Elekid, while in Explorers of Time and Darkness it could be recruited at the tenth floor of Amp Plains and the first nine floors of Far Amp Plains. In Pokémon Ranger, Electabuzz appear in the Go-Rock Squad Base after the credits. In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, it appeared at Cargo Ship, Chroma Ruins and Altru Building. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, it appeared at Layuda Island. Electabuzz also appeared in Pokémon Rumble at Eternal Tower. In PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure, it could be befriended at Haunted Zone and also appeared at Meeting Place.
Other Appearances[edit]
- In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Electabuzz made a cameo appearance among a group of Pokémon that appeared in the game's intro sequence.
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, Electabuzz have made various appearances. One was first shown in an episode of the Kanto series where it was the mascot Pokémon of one of two rivaling gyms and was pitted against the other gym's Scyther. During the Orange Islands arc, Electabuzz was used by one of the Orange Islands gym leaders as well as the Orange Crew champion Drake in their battles with Ash. An Electabuzz also served as the security guard of a power plant in a Johto series episode. In the Sinnoh series, Paul's Elekid evolved into Electabuzz during a Tag Battle Competition. He left it with his brother Reggie for a while but later reclaimed it, and it evolved into Electivire later.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Electabuzz was first featured in a chapter of the Red/Green/Blue arc. It was aggressive enough that Surge could not even keep it in its Poké ball, and it was able to punch through floors with ease. Red's Poliwhirl only gained the upper hand after evolving into Poliwrath. It was later defeated by Morty's Misdreavus during the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc.
