Enemies in A Link Between Worlds
Bosses[edit]
Hyrule[edit]
Yuga is the main antagonist of the game and is battled several times. He was first fought as the boss of the Eastern Palace, and after the Pendants of Virtue were gathered, he was battled again at Hyrule Castle as the last boss faced prior to the Lorule portion of the game.
During the first battle, Yuga attacked with blasts of magic and hid in the walls whenever Link attempted to approach him. Link had to hit him with an arrow to stun him, at which point he could be attacked. Unlike most bosses of dungeons in this game and the series in general, defeating Yuga did not earn Link any quest items, although he would receive the Pendant of Courage from Zelda shortly afterwards. In the second battle with Yuga, he made two copies of himself while attacking with magical spells, and Link had to attack the real one.
- Margomill
Margomill acted as the boss of the House of Gales and guarded the Pendant of Wisdom. It resembled a giant disc-shaped being with an eyeball housed in its center. It attacked by spinning around and by shooting out gusts of air in attempts to damage Link or knock him off of the platform. To hurt Margomill, Link had to use the Tornado Rod to leap onto the top of Margomill and attack its eyeball. After being attacked enough times, Margomill managed to stack up several disc-shaped segments to prevent Link from reaching its eye, which it kept closed. However, Link could destroy each segment with his sword, bombs or the hammer. This would cause Margomill to open its eye again and become vulnerable to attack. Eventually, Margomill was destroyed.
In Tri Force Heroes, a nearly identical boss known as Margoma appeared, as well as smaller enemy versions of the boss known as Mini-Margo.
The Moldorm acted as the boss of the Tower of Hera and guarded the Pendant of Power. Its attack pattern was similar to its original appearance in A Link to the Past, in that it constantly tried to knock Link off of the platform and was attacked by hitting its tail several times.
A stronger, purple version of the Moldorm also appeared as one of the minibosses faced within Lorule Castle. Additionally, both Moldorms appeared as bosses faced at the Treacherous Tower, with the original Moldorm being the enemy of the Beginner course, while the purple Moldorm was the final boss of the Advanced course.
Lorule[edit]
- Gemesaur King
The Gemesaur King was the boss faced in the Dark Palace and was entrusted with the portrait of Gulley. This boss was similar to the Helmasaur King, which had been the boss of the Dark Palace in A Link to the Past. It was a large creature that wore a mask and had a body covered in crystals, which produced Rupees if damaged by bombs. To defeat it, Link had to attack its mask with bombs until it was destroyed and then attack its jeweled head. The Gemesaur King attacked by charging at Link and was quite agile, and it also put out the room's lights after its mask was destroyed.
Arrghus was the boss faced in the Swamp Palace and was entrusted with the portrait of Oren. It had previous been the boss of the Dark World's Swamp Palace in A Link to the Past and was nearly the same as its appearance in that game. It was surrounded by protective bubbles (containing large eyeballs) which Link had to grapple away and destroy before attacking its main body. After being hit in the eye enough times, it was destroyed. It was later battled again as a miniboss at Lorule Castle.
- Knucklemaster
Knucklemaster was the boss faced in the Skull Woods and was entrusted with the portrait of Seres. The only example of a boss based on a Wallmaster, the Knucklemaster was a giant hand wearing a metal gauntlet which had an eyeball in its palm. The Knucklemaster attempted to squash Link, and it could also form a fist to "punch" through the air in an attempt to strike Link. If its punch attack missed, it could end up hitting a wall and stunning itself, which left it open to being attacked. It would ultimately be destroyed in this manner.
Stalblind was the boss faced in Thieves Town and was entrusted with the portrait of Osfala, which he hid within a locked storage house within the town. He acted as the Lorule counterpart of Blind the Thief and led the towns' thieves, although he was of an undead nature. He attacked Link when Link attempted to leave the dungeon with the Thief Girl, who knew the location of the portrait. He assumed a giant form, and he attacked with a sword and shield. Link could merge with his shield to confuse him and then attack him. After being hit enough times, Stalblind disposed of his shield and attacked only with his sword, and he later also detached his head from his body. Ultimately, attacking Stalbind consistently would destroy him.
- Zaganaga
Zaganaga was a giant plant monster that was entrusted with the portrait of Irene. Zaganaga was originally located in Misery Mire, but due to pieces of Lorule coming through the fissures between worlds, Zagana ended up being relocated to the Desert Palace. Link had to navigate both dungeons to reach Zaganaga. It was battled over a field of quicksand, where Link had to stand upon a series of pillars. Zaganaga moved from pillar to pillar and attempted to attack Link, but it could also be attacked freely by Link's weapons. Its pink flower was initially closed, but after being attacked enough, it bloomed to reveal that it had three eyeballs. Zaganaga released small Peahat-like creatures to attack Link as well as streams of sand. After being hit enough times, it was destroyed.
- Dharkstare
Dharkstare was a boss that was faced in the Ice Ruins and was entrusted with the painting of Rosso. It was similar to Kholdstare, a boss originally faced at the Ice Palace (a different location) in A Link to the Past. It was a dark, one-eyed creature with a body that consisted of countless tendrils. In battle, it froze itself within a sphere of ice and floated in the air while attacking with a variety of ice attacks. Link had to melt the ice with the Fire Rod and then attack it while it flailed around helplessly. It would eventually reform its ice barrier and use stronger attacks, but ultimately it would be defeated through repetition of the same method.
- Grinexx
Grinexx was a boss that was faced at Turtle Rock and was entrusted with the painting of Impa. It was similar to Trinexx, the boss of Turtle Rock from A Link to the Past, except that it had only one head. It resembled a turtle with a rocky shell. Grinexx initially attacked from a pool of lava and could be damaged by the Ice Rod. After being hit enough times, it came into the area to attack Link directly. It attempted to extend its neck and snap its jaws at Link, and its abilities also included unleashing an explosion and spinning around while tucked into its shell. Link had to defeat Grinexx by repeatedly attacking its head with his sword.
- Yuga Ganon
The final boss of the game, a merger between Yuga and Ganon. The first phase of the battle was similar to Ganon's fight from A Link to the Past, while the second phase involved volleying Yuga Ganon's magical blasts back at him. Afterwards, Yuga Ganon attempted to find refuge by merging with a wall. Link had to use Light Arrows to force him out and stun him, at which point he could be attacked and finished off.
