Onox, General of Darkness, is the main villain of Oracle of Seasons.
Background[edit]
Onox was a dark dragon whom Twinrova summoned from the Dark Realm to aid in the revival of the Evil Lord Ganon, which required three special torches to be lit. Onox's job was to light the Torch of Destruction by causing mass devastation in Holodrum as a result of tossing its seasons into chaos. In the normal world, Onox took on the form of a large armored human who wielded a ball-and-chain. In this form, he could summon magic tornadoes in addition to his natural strength. He started his conquest by tracking down the Oracle of Seasons, Din, and imprisoning her in a crystal. Afterwards he caused the Temple of Seasons to sink into the earth, which messed up the seasons of Holodrum.
General Onox simply sat and waited in his castle with Din while Holodrum withered around him. But one boy, Link, fought his way into Onox's castle and engaged the general in battle. Onox's thick armor could only be penetrated by the Master Sword, or by the Noble Sword with spin attacks. When Onox realized he was losing, he started using Din's crystal as a shield, as it would shock Link with electricity whenever he hit it. Despite this. Onox lost the battle. Rather than give up, Onix then forced Link down to the basement and transformed into his true dragon form. He continuously spat fireballs at the hero in a final attemp to destroy him. Link was able to ride on one of Onox's hands and leap from the hand to slash the ruby in Onox's forehead, which was his weakness. Onox was eventually destroyed, but he knew his death was not in vain, as the Torch of Destruction had been lit, and Twinrova was one step closer to reviving Ganon.
Other Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
- General Onox was featured in the Oracle of Seasons manga. His powers were expanded on, as plants withered wherever he walked, and he was accompanied by a black fog that could cloud people's minds. The fog was also used to extract Link's life force, until Din revived him. In the finale, he was destroyed by a combination attack from Link, Maple and Ricky.
Trivia[edit]
- There are points in the games where he is accidentally referred to as Knox. It is uncertain if this name is a typo or the remains of some previously considered localization name for him.
- His design is nearly identical to Iron Knuckles in Ocarina of Time, with the primary difference being his weapon of choice.
- His armor has the symbol of the Gerudo on it. It is uncertain whether or not this means Onox is related to the Gerudos somehow, although it most likely has to do with his working with Twinrova, who themselves are Gerudo witches.
