Twinrova is the fused form of the two Gerudo Witches Koume and Kotake, as well as a collective name for the two witches who appear as bosses in several games of the The Legend of Zelda series. Although the two witches are elderly as individuals, when fused as Twinrova they became a much larger and more youthful figure. Twinrova specializes in casting a mix of fire and ice spells, making her very formidable.

Koume and Kotake were a pair of sisters, with Kotake being the elder of the two. Kotake specialized in fire magic, while Koume specialized in ice magic. The two of them were known to serve as surrogate mothers for Ganondorf, although the full extent of their influence on his upbringing was unknown.

The two witches appeared for the first time in the Spirit Temple in Ocarina of Time. They found Nabooru snooping around the area and quickly captured her. They used their magic to brainwash her and transformed her into a Iron Knuckle. Seven years later, Link met the two after he had defeated Nabooru (still in Iron Knuckle form). The two witches decided to defeat him personally. They proceeded to battle him, and after they were defeated, they fused together into Twinrova. Despite being more powerful now, she was defeated when Link charged up his Mirror Shield three times (with the same kind of magic) and reflected it at her numerous times until she was defeated. The two proceeded to die, as they were shown ascending to the afterlife with halos above their heads while continuing to bicker with each other.

The witches also appeared in Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, towards the end of whichever game was played first and throughout the second linked game. The two witches summoned Veran and Onox from the Dark Realm to light the three Flames of Despair, Destruction, and Sorrow. Thise ritual would bring Ganon back to life back to life. Veran and Onox were defeated by Link, but they causes enough havoc to light two of the flames. Koume and Kotake proceeded to kidnap Zelda, in hopes of using her as a sacrifice to light the last flame and revive Ganon. Link arrived to challenge them first, and so they battled each other. After being defeated in their separated form, the witches fused into Twinrova and battled again. After being defeated in three different forms, Twinrova was defeated and sacrificed herself instead to light the last flame. This brought back Ganon, although he was defeated soon afterwards by Link.

Termina

The pair also had alternate versions of themselves appear within the alternate world of Termina in Majora's Mask. They were both still witches, but they lived relatively ordinary lives and were more benign in nature. They lived in the Southern Swamp, where Kotake owned the local potion shop, and Koume sold tickets at the Boat Rides.

During the events of Majora's Mask, Koume was attacked by the Skull Kid and knocked off her broomstick in the middle of the Maze Woods. Link was sent to find her, and he was able to do so with the help of several monkeys. After finding out that she was injured, Link could receive a red potion (with a complimentary bottle) from Kotake to give to Koume. The potion successfully restored Koume's health, and she returned to her job. Koume thanked Link by giving him a free ride to the Deku Kingdom, and she also hosted a minigame in which Link could earn a Piece of Heart by shooting ten targets while riding the boat.

As for Kotake, Link could also provide her with mushrooms that she needed to make blue potions, and she would give Link a free blue potion out of gratitude.

Video Games

• Koume and Kotake make an appearance in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, wherein one of them will occasionally appear in the Gerudo Valley stage and unleash magic attacks of fire or ice. There is also a Twinrova trophy in the 3DS/Wii U game which uses the model of their fused form.
  • In Ultimate, there is an Advanced-rank Primary Spirit of Koume and Kotake that can be enhanced into an Ace-rank Spirit of Twinrova, which also grants a boost to magical attack power. When fought in a Spirit battle, Koume and Kotake's Spirit would possess a pair of Bayonetta duplicates. One would start the battle wielding a Fire Flower, while the other would wield a Freezie.
• In Cadence of Hyrule, a boss based on Twinrova appeared as part of the "Symphony of the Mask" DLC. Known as Synthrova, this boss was a giant synthesizer which depicted Koume and Kotake on the screens. As in other appearances, each side attacked using the witch's respective elemental attack. Various enemies appeared during the battle, and Synthrova could be hurt by defeating enemies while they were standing on Synthrova's power nodes. Synthrova was fought at the end of the Temple of Brainstorms and left behind the Powered Synth after being defeated.

Other Media

• Koume and Kotake appear in the adult chapters of Ocarina of Time manga, where they make several appearances prior to the chapters dealing with the Spirit Temple. They are first seen among Ganondorf's lieutenants and later brainwash Ingo to make him mentally unstable to lure Link into a trap. During the Spirit Temple chapters, they suspect Sheik of treachery and after discovering Sheik as an ally of Link, attack her. They later ambush Link and Zelda in the Spirit Temple until they are destroyed by their own blasts reflected by the Mirror Shield provided by Nabooru. Unlike in the games, they never fuse.
• The two witches also appear in the Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages manga. In the former, one disguises herself as helpless old woman to lure Link and his allies into a trap, and the latter manga depicts them finishing preparations to revive Ganon. Unlike in the games, Link never fights them, and Ganon is only revived with two torches, with Twinrova appearing to sacrifice themselves immediately after the second torch is lit.

Trivia

• Koume and Kotake's names are derived from a pair of elderly twins who appear in the Japanese novel "The Village of Eight Gravestones".
• In Ocarina of Time, Koume claims the sisters are 380 years old, but Kotake in turn claims they are actually 400 years old.
• Although Koume and Kotake are in Majora's Mask, their fused form does not make an appearance. Similarly, in the Oracle games, Kotake and Koume appear but are never individually named - referred to as only Twinrova.
