Admiral Castor Dane is one of the leaders in the Galactic Federation Military introduced in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
Background[edit]
At an early age, Dane was orphaned due to a Space Pirate attack that killed his parents. This instilled in him a strong dislike for the Space Pirates and likely was the impetus for joining the Galactic Federation military. He would eventually rise to the rank of Fleet Admiral and have control over the Federation flagship, the G.F.S. Olympus. From here he coordinated most of the Federation's military actions and regularly employed bounty hunters to handle jobs too difficult for Federation Troopers.
One such mission occurred following the expulsion of the Space Pirates on Aether. The strange material Phazon had become a standard weapon for the Space Pirates and was being worked into the Federation ranks as well. Worse yet, most of the Federation's network was down due to a Phazon virus infecting Aurora Units around the galaxy. For this reason he employed four of his best bounty hunters; Samus Aran, Rundus, Ghor and Gandrayda.
While apprising them of the situation, the Olympus was attacked and boarded by a Space Pirate boarding party. With the help of the bounty hunters, the Space Pirates were repulsed, but not without several casualties on the ship first. The real pirate target was the planet Norion. The pirates launched a Leviathan ship to corrupt the planet with Phazon. The four bounty hunters were able to repel the land forces and repair the planetary defenses, but were corrupted in the meantime.
Following this, Admiral Dane dispatched Ghor, Gandrayda, and Rundus to different planets to disable the Leviathans that had landed on those planets. Two weeks later, Samus Aran awakened. By this time the three hunters had become corrupted and severed communications. Samus Aran was dispatched to deal with the Leviathan units and the rogue bounty hunters.
When at last Samus arrived on the Pirate Homeworld, Admiral Dane personally brought his forces to lead an assault on the planet. Prior to Samus's attack on the Leviathan, he spoke with her directly on a plan to have her lead demolitions specialists into the base to open the way to the Leviathan.
His final act against the Phazon had him lead an attack against the remaining Space Pirate forces in orbit around Phaaze. While Samus Aran took care of the source of the corruption, Admiral Dane led a bloody battle that cost several casualties and destruction of a third of the fleet. When the planet showed signs of destruction, Dane led the fleet through a wormhole back into normal space.
Although at first there was no sign of Samus Aran escaping, she soon showed up and transmitted a message to the Olympus: "Mission Complete".
Trivia[edit]
- Early concept art of what may have been Admiral Dane depicts him with a missing leg, and eyepatch, and a laser sword.
- In early versions of Metroid Prime 3:Corruption, Admiral Dane had a very different helmet than the one he wears now, it was light green and shaped like a bucket.
