The first, and most well known of all of Kirby's games, Kirby's Dream Land was intentionally easy. The game's designer, Masahiro Sakurai, wanted the game to be accessible for beginners. The game established many of the basics of Kirby games.

Originally, Kirby wasn't going to be the star of the game. A character named Popopo was the original hero, but the developers grew to like Kirby, so the game starred him instead.

Story

King Dedede has stolen all the food in Dream Land. It's up to Kirby to go and get it back.

Gameplay

Kirby travels through the various levels, avoiding or defeating enemies. Each level has a mini-boss halfway through and a boss at the end. Kirby has the ability to walk, jump, fly, swim, and inhale enemies. Kirby is also to exhale a puff of air that will damage any enemy it hits.

Legacy

Kirby's Dream Land was the first Kirby game. Along with introducing Kirby, it also introduced many returning enemies such as King Dedede, Waddle Dee, and Whispy Woods.

Sequels

The next Kirby game was Kirby's Adventure for the Nintendo Entertainment System. However, the next game to share the Dream Land title was Kirby's Dream Land 2.

Ports and Remakes

  • This game was later rereleased over the Nintendo Power system.
  • A remade version of Kirby's Dream Land appeared on Kirby Super Star under the name Spring Breeze.
  • In 2011, The original version was released for download as part of the 3DS Virtual Console. It was one of the Virtual Console's launch titles in Japan.
