Swoobat is a bat-like Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation games. They are the evolved form of Woobat.

Information

A Swoobat evolves into a Woobat when it levels up with a high amount of happiness. They emit sound waves from their noses at various frequencies, including some that are powerful enough to break rocks. Male Swoobat emit special ultrasonic waves while courting females. If a human comes into contact with these waves, it will usually cause a positive mood shift within the person.

Appearances

Mainstream Games

Swoobat has not appeared in the wild and can only be obtained by evolving Woobat.

Other Games

In Pokémon Rumble Blast, Swoobat could found in caves at Misty Edgewater and the second basement floor of World Axle.

Other Appearances

Other Media

  • One episode of the Pokémon anime featured a flock of Swoobat that chased an Emolga (and eventually Iris and her Axew as well) down for disturbing their sleep. The Emolga was eventually able to distract them with Attract until Ash and his friends could rescue them.

Trivia

  • Its name seems to be a combination of "swoop" (or possibly "swoon", which matches up better with Woobat's name origin) and "bat".
  • Swoobat's evolution through happiness seems to be a parallel of fellow bat Pokémon Golbat's evolution to Crobat.
