Kirby's Adventure is the second game in the in the Kirby series and one of the last games to be made for the NES. Due to it being released so late, it is known for having some of system's most well-developed graphics.
Story
After waking from his afternoon nap without having any dreams, Kirby investigates the Fountain of Dreams. There, he finds that the Star Rod has been stolen by King Dedede and broken into seven pieces. It's up to Kirby to restore the Star Rod and save everyone's dreams.
Gameplay
Kirby's Adventure borrows a lot from Kirby's original game, Kirby's Dream Land. Kirby can fly, inhale enemies, and jump (as well as float by holding in air) as he makes his way through a variety of levels, while facing a variety of bosses. One of the bosses is Meta Knight, making his first appearance in the series.
The most lasting change to the gameplay was Kirby's new copy ability. In the previous game, whenever Kirby swallowed an enemy, all he could do was spit the star back out. Starting in Kirby's Adventure, Kirby gained new powers by swallowing enemies.
Continuity Notes
- The instruction manual mentions Dedede's previous attack on Dream Land from Kirby's Dream Land (the preceding platformer).
Legacy
Kirby's copy ability became a staple of the Kirby series and was utilized in most games of the franchise. Adventure is also notable s the first appearance of recurring character Meta Knight.
Sequels
The next game to feature Kirby, Kirby's Pinball Land, came out in November of the same year. However, the next platformer was Kirby's Dream Land 2, which wasn't released until 1995.
Ports and Remakes
- Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land is a Game Boy Advance remake of Kirby's Adventure.
- In 2007, Kirby's Adventure was rereleased for the Wii's Virtual Console. A demo version was included in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a Masterpiece.
- In 2011, it was released as a 3D Classic that could be bought and downloaded for the 3DS. This version was enhanced with stereoscopic 3D.
- In April 2013, it was released worldwide for the Wii U as part of the Wii U Virtual Console.
