Bugsy is the second gym leader encountered in Pokémon: Gold, Silver and Pokémon: Crystal Versions. He is a Bug type trainer.

Background

Bugsy was the gym leader of the Azalea Town Pokémon gym. Despite his youth, he had an extensive knowledge of Pokémon and underwent frequent researching in hopes of becoming an authority on Bug-type Pokémon.

In Gold, Silver and Crystal, he was eventually challenged and defeated by Gold. After being defeated, he was impressed and realized her research was not complete yet. So he gave Gold the Hivebadge as well as TM 49: Fury Cutter.

Bugsy appears as an opponent in the Gym Leader's Castle of Pokémon Stadium 2. In this game his line-up instead contains a Scyther, Butterfree, Beedrill, Weepinbell, Pinsir and Pupitar in R1, or a Raticate, Scyther, Pinsir, Sudowoodo, Quagsire and Heracross in R2.

Bugsy also appears in Pokémon Puzzle Challenge as the second opponent, using a Kakuna in battle.

  • He appeared in one episode of the Pokémon anime where he was defeated by Ash Ketchum.
  • Bugsy appears in several chapters of the Pokémon Adventures manga, where is an archeologist. He and Gold first meet at the Ruins of Alph, where they search for Bugsy's missing archeological team, investigate the secrets of the Unown and battle Team Rocket. Gold initially confuses Bugsy with a girl and asks him on a date before being corrected. During the contest between Kanto and Johto gym leaders, Bugsy is paired against Sabrina and despite having a type advantage he ultimately loses to Sabrina's cunning.
