Heracross is a powerful beetle-like Pokémon that was introduced in the second generation games.
Information[edit]
Heracross gather in forests seeking the sweet sap of trees. Their bodies are clad in steel-hard shells, and they all have prized horns which they thrust under enemies' bellies for the purpose of tossing them into the air. Heracross are usually docile, but they will chase down those who disturb them when they are eating honey. It usually charges at its foe in a straight line and slips in beneath their grasp before tossing them with its horn. Heracross's Herculean strength makes it capable of easily throwing around an object that is 100 times its own weight.
It has the power to topple a massive tree. Heracross also has sharp claws on its feet which it can firmly plant in the ground or the bark of a tree. This gives Heracross a secure footing from which it can attack with its horn. They usually toss rivals away to ensure that they have more honey for themselves.
Appearances[edit]
Mainstream Games[edit]
In Pokémon: Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, they were uncommonly found by headbutting trees in various areas. In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, it was rarely found at the Safari Zone. In FireRed and LeafGreen, they were found uncommonly at Pattern Bush.
In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, they had a chance of appearing on trees that had been slathered in honey. In Black and White, they rarely appeared at Route 12.
Other Games[edit]
A Shadow Heracross could be snagged from Cipher Peon Dioge at Realgam Tower in Pokémon Colosseum, and after being purified it could be traded to any of the third generation color versions. In Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, it could be caught at the Safari Zone on the Ruby Field. In Pokémon Channel, they appeared at Mt. Snowfall on cloudy mornings. In Pokémon Trozei!, it was found at Phobos Walker, Endless Level 15, Trozei Battle and Mr. Who's Den. It could be recruited in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Teams at the seventh through ninth floors of Grand Canyon and the thirty-ninth through forty-second floors of Joyous Tower as well as in Explorers of Time and Space at the first nineteen floors of Mt. Travail. In Pokémon Ranger, it appeared at Olive Jungle. Heracross was also found in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs at Canal Ruins and Dark Temple.
Other Appearances[edit]
Video Games[edit]
- In the Super Smash Bros. series, Heracross initially made a cameo appearance among a group of Pokémon seen in the intro sequence to Super Smash Bros. Melee. Heracross has also been represented by a trophy in Melee and by an Advanced-rank Primary Spirit (which comes with a fire weakness) in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When fought against in a Spirit battle, Heracross's Spirit would possess Bowser and fight with increased throw power in a stage with sticky floor. Its attack power would also increase when badly damaged.
Other Media[edit]
- In the Pokémon anime, one early episode of the Johto series featured Heracross and Pinsir fighting over territory, which ultimately turned out to be due to Team Rocket taking the sap from a Pinsir's tree. One Heracross helped Ash's group to solve the problem and then allowed itself to be captured by Ash. It proved to be capable battler, although it also had a bad habit of trying to suck Bulbasaur's sap. Ash returned Heracross to Professor Oak after the Johto series, although he used it for his battle with Spenser as well as for the Lily of the Valley Conference at the end of the Sinnoh series. Other Heracross have also appeared in minor appearances and belonging to other trainers.
- In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Heracross makes a cameo appearance near the end of the Yellow arc and is then shown as one of Bugsy's Pokémon in the Gold/Silver/Crystal arc and as one of Greta's Pokémon in the Emerald arc.
Trivia[edit]
- Its name is a combination of "Heracles" (in reference to the Hercules beetle which it is modeled on) with "cross".
