Malon is a character in the Zelda games. She is usually portrayed as the young daughter of Talon, owner of Lon Lon Ranch.
Background
Ocarina of Time
In Ocarina of Time Malon is often seen singing Epona's Song, the song her mother had composed. She is also the only person who can tame the horse Epona and uses her to set records at Lon Lon Ranch's track. As a little girl she meets a young boy named Link and nicknames him "Grasshopper" due to his green clothes. She teaches him Epona's Song and finds that Epona has grown fond of him.
Over the seven years of Link's slumber and Ganondorf's rise to power, Ingo took over Lon Lon Ranch and booted Talon out of the ranch. Ingo forced Malon to stay by threatening to hurt the horses. Then Link returned and overthrew Ingo after beating him in a race with Epona. Malon thanked Link. Her father returned to the ranch, and she sang again during the celebration at Lon Lon Ranch following Ganondorf's defeat.
Other Games
Malon also appears in Oracle of Seasons, where she lives with Talon in a small house north of Holodrum's Horon Village along with a flock of cuccos. When Talon leaves her in charge of the cuccos, Malon grows nervous as she has no idea how to treat cuccos. But if Link presents her with a Cuccodex, she thanks Link by giving him a Lon Lon Egg.
In Hyrulian Adventure the Links worked together to protect Malon and escort her to her home at Lon Lon Ranch in one level. And in The Minish Cap she sold Lon Lon Milk with Epona in Hyrule Castle Town.
Termina
In Majora's Mask, Malon has two Terminan counterparts: sisters named Romani and Cremia. Romani is the counterpart of her child self, while Cremia is the counterpart of her adult self. Together they run Romani Ranch.
Trivia
- Malon is based upon a similar character named Marin from Link's Awakening.
- In Ocarina of Time, Malon also wears an amulet which shows Bowser‘s face.
- Twilight Princess has a pair of characters named Talo and Malo whose names are similar to Talon and Malon, yet aside from that there is no connection between the characters.
