Debut Super Mario Land

Princess Daisy is a supporting character from the Super Mario series who has primarily appeared in the sports and party spin-offs of the Mario series over the years. She originally appeared in Super Mario Land, which was her only appearance in the main series until 2016's Super Mario Run.

Background

Daisy hailed from and ruled over Sarasaland, which was described as a 'world' containing four kingdoms. The space conqueror Tatanga came to Sarasaland in Super Mario Land and hypnotized the inhabitants into doing his bidding. He them kidnapped Daisy and even set up fakes of her at the end of each of the four kingdoms, guarded by his strongest of minions. Mario rescued Daisy after a long quest and the two took off in a rocket ship that had presumably belonged to the defeated Tatanga.

She later made a brief appearance in NES Open Tournament Golf as Luigi's caddie, and at that point there was a long gap in her appearances until she returned as a playable character in Mario Tennis 64. From then on, she has acted as a constant presence in the spin-off games. She's played golf, tennis, basketball, soccer, kart races, and taken part in the myriad of Mario Parties. Not much has been learned about Daisy, although she has been shown to own her own cruise ship, as seen in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, and she has sometimes been described as being tomboyish. She has been constantly partnered with Peach (and a sometimes Luigi) as her double. It has occasionally been implied that she and Luigi possibly have a romantic interest.

Daisy later reappeared in the adventure games in Super Mario Run. She appeared within the mode known as Remix 10, where she had gotten lost and needed to be rescued as Mario. After being rescued, Daisy was unlocked as a playable character. She was shown to possess a double jump as her unique ability.

She has an infant counterpart, known as Baby Daisy. Baby Daisy appeared in several of the kart-racing games, starting in Mario Kart Wii, and she also appeared in Mario Super Sluggers.

Sports

Daisy has primarily appeared in sports titles.

Within the Challenge Mode of Mario Super Sluggers, she was turned into a statue, presumably through Magikoopa magic, within the Peach Ice Gardens. The statue was first used down to hold a switch to activate the fountain's drain. She was restored and replaced with a Toad statue after Bowser Jr. was driven out of the area, and she would then be recruited into the baseball team. Baby Daisy would be found later on in the same area, where she was crying after being scared by Bowser Jr. until her rattle (which she used as a bat) was returned to her.

Mario Party

Daisy is also a playable character in the Mario Party series, starting in Mario Party 3, where she is not playable in Story Mode. Afterwards, she is also playable in Mario Party 4, Mario Party 5, Mario Party 6, Mario Party 7, Mario Party 8, Mario Party 9, Mario Party 10, Mario Party-e, Mario Party DS, Mario Party: Island Tour, Mario Party: Star Rush, Mario Party: The Top 100, Super Mario Fushigi no Korokoro Party and Super Mario Fushigi no Korokoro Party 2. She was also playable in the similarly themed Itadaki Street DS and Fortune Street.

In the Story Mode of Mario Party 3, Daisy appears after the Courage Star Stamp is won by the player to claim the Beauty Star Stamp. She nearly convinces the Millennium Star to give it to her without a test with her charms, but the player character argues which results in a Duel Match between the two for the Beauty stamp at Backtrack. Daisy loses the match and then runs away.

Other Appearances

Video Games

  • Daisy has made several indirect appearances throughout the Super Smash Bros. series until joining the playable cast in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. From Peach's first appearance as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Melee until Ultimate, Peach has had a color swap which matches the color of Daisy's hair and clothing, even including her flower brooch. In Ultimate, she could be unlocked as a playable fighter and was designated as an Echo Fighter, meaning that she is nearly identical to Peach in terms of gameplay, with only a few variations including her Final Smash producing flowers instead of peaches. She also uses a blue Toad instead of a red Toad.
