Debut Wario Land 4

Princess Shokora is the damsel-in-distress of Wario Land 4. Though only seen in her true form in the beginning, she is present throughout the game.

Background[edit]

A newspaper showing Shokora

As the ruler of an ancient kingdom long ago, Princess Shokora was seemingly defeated by The Golden Diva. The events involving this are unknown, but she was trapped in the form of a cat. The story however went that the arrogant, greedy Golden Diva cast her into a cursed sleep. The Golden Pyramid was lost, but was eventually uncovered due to the efforts of a particular archeologist. When the story reached Wario's ears, he set off to the pyramid to seek out treasure.

However Shokora was not entirely inactive and took to following him around in the form of a cat. In that form she was able to do little, but she was able to shift into other shadowy forms as well. Before each boss room she would shift into the form of a strange shadowy being (that resembles Mr. Game & Watch) that would sell her services to attack the bosses. Her various attack forms would reduce the boss's HP by a set amount before the battle.

When Wario finally fought the Golden Diva, Shokora attempted to attack the Golden Diva herself. However Shokora was instead absorbed by the Diva, who then fought Wario. After the Golden Diva's defeat, Wario escaped the crumbling Golden Pyramid, followed closely by Shokora in her feline form. While the two laughed at their successful escape, suddenly Shokora was enveloped in a glowing light, transformed back into her human form, and gave Wario a kiss. However she soon was enveloped in a heavenly light and escorted by cherubs to heaven, leaving Wario to do whatever he wanted with the treasure.

Attack Forms[edit]

As the Shop Owner, Shokora has 8 different attack forms that can be bought. Each one has its own strength and some are more effective against certain bosses than others. In order to earn coins to spend on these items, Wario has to win coins in the mini-games. In the final four forms, the Shop Owner will actually transform to attack.

  • Apple Bomb: 2 Coins
  • A simple apple that is tossed by the Shop Owner. It is actually a bomb in disguise and does a small amount of damage.
  • Blast Cannon: 2 Coins
  • The Shop Owner will bring out a cannon and fire it at the boss. It is roughly the same strength as the Apple Bomb.
  • Vizorman: 4 Coins
  • A superhero that will be pushed in by the Shop Owner. Vizorman will use his laser vision to attack the boss.
  • Bugle: 6 Coins
  • The Shop Owner will use a bugle that will create musical notes that will hit the boss. This is most effective on Spoiled Rotten.
  • Black Dog: 10 Coins
  • The Shop Owner will shift shapes into a giant Black Dog which will proceed to float towards the boss and bite it. This is most effective against Catbat.
  • Large Lips: 10 Coins
  • The Shop Owner will transform into a giant pair of lips with legs. She will then float up to the boss and smother it with kisses. This is most effective against Aerodent.
  • Big Fist: 10 Coins
  • The Shop Owner transforms into a giant gloved fist and proceeds to pummel the boss. This is most effective against Cuckoo Condor.
  • Black Dragon: 10 Coins
  • The Shop Owner transforms into a Black Dragon and spew a stream of fire at the boss. This is most effective against Cractus.

Endings[edit]

During each boss battles, Wario will gain a certain number of treasure chests, depending on how fast he beats the boss. Depending on how many chests he has at the end of the game, Shokora will appear in different forms.

  • 0-1 Chests: Baby Princess
  • Shokora will appear as a small baby. Wario will look disgusted.
  • 2-3 Chests: 'Wario' Princess
  • Shokora will look like a female Wario. Wario will look disgusted.
  • 4-11 Chests: Young Princess
  • Shokora will appear as a normal princess, similar to Peach. Wario will look contented. (This version is the one shown in the newspaper during the game's intro).
  • 12 Chests: True Princess
  • Shokora will appear as a more mature princess. Wario will look contented.

Other Appearances[edit]

Video Games[edit]

  • She is present in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Novice-rank Support Spirit that allowed the player to start the battle equipped with a Super Leaf. Her Spirit was represented by her official artwork from Wario Land 4. During Spirit battles, she would possess Princess Peach and attempt to elude the player while protected by Wario and Mr. Game & Watch (likely in reference to Shokora's shadowy form bearing a resemblance to him) in a timed battle.

Trivia[edit]

  • Her name, Shokora, is a Japanese approximation for the English word 'Chocolate'. This is similar to how Peach was named after a sweet food.
  • Though not usually in the business of rescuing damsels-in-distress, Wario later rescued Queen Merelda in Wario Land: Shake It!, though only to get to the treasure and not for her sake.
  • Shokora's younger form is very similar in appearance to Peach. In fact she wears the same dress, right down to the brooch she wears.
